FTTC 250m from Cabinet

Hi,

Measured this morning - my cabinet (which is getting the FTTC cabinet built next to it as we speak) is about 250m away by road.

Cables could obviously be either shorter than that and go more as the crow flies or take a longer route, but I assume it'll be there or there abouts.

It's a newish estate so cabling should be ok you would think.

Is anyone else a similar distance away?

What kind of speed do you think I should get on Infinity?

250mtr would likely be the distance as the cables tend to follow the roads more then cut through peoples houses and gardens.

That said the cable may go the long way round so if there is a longer path back to the cabinate it may go that way all depends.

Anyway should be nice and fast on VDSL.

There is a main road between though so I guess where it goes to cross that.

How close to 40/10 do you think I should be able to get?

Hi,

That just says:

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 1Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 250Kbps and 2Mbps.

However on O2 Broadband i'm getting 5Mbps down, 1Mbps up on speed tests and there is no mention of Infinity even though they have started work on installing a new cabinet next to the old one!

Have you checked the BT Infinity site HERE



According to your test result on the BT wholesale checker your cabinet is not getting FTTC.

Yep - that says:

BT Infinity is not currently due to be rolled out in your area within the next 6 months. Register your interest and we will keep you up to date about the BT Infinity rollout.

It's very strange as they are clearly putting a new cabinet next to the current one - you can see the concrete base and the cable ducts.....that must be for FTTC when the exchange is due to be upgraded for it this month!

You are probably a little too early checking the wholesale site if your ground works are just starting (just need a little patience (no I'm not a Take That fan - the missus is)) .

Not sure if its already been covered in other forum posts, but someone may know timescales for when FTTC cabinet installs start for an exchange to the checker starting to show estimated FTTC results???

Just keep trying with the checkers,it will come up eventually.
