As far as I can tell, my line goes straight into the exchange - i.e. no green cabinet to install new kit)
While this is great for ADSL2(+), it's left me a little confused about a FTTC deployment.
FTTC is supposed to be coming this September, so does anyone know what BTO do in these situations?

If you are connected direct to the exchange, then nothing will change for you I'm afraid. FTTC is not available if you're not fed from a cabinet. If you PM me your postcode, I'll tell you

No cabinet , no FTTC.

Noooooo!
So people down the road can get 40Mbps and I'd be 'stuck' with 24Mbps?
I suppose it's payback for having a faster line for all this time...

I think I'll pop out tomorrow and buy some green paint. It can't hurt.

I wish I was stuck with 24Mbps. I've just been switched to FTTC and can still only get 15Mbps.

Aaaaah, but while youve been getting 24Mbps all this time some of us have only been getting 5Mbps or even less

I'd love to be stuck at 24 - but, no cabinet means no FTTC - it doesn't mean you won't get FTTP from the exchange or VDSL on your exchange connection (depending on how far that is).

How far are you from the cab?
I'm not sure, but the nearest cabinet I can find is about 600 metres away. Prior to FTTC I could only get 2.9Mbps.

I'd say the line length must be a lot more than 600m if you're only getting 15Mb. What you were getting prior to FTTC is irrelevant.

I am 600m away and get pretty much full speed so what kasg says make good sense!

I'm with Talktalk at the moment, so it doesn't play nice.
James from ADSL24 checked my postcode and he confirmed it as a direct line.
Just need to find a way to maximise my upload speed now!

What you were getting prior to FTTC is irrelevant.
It is of relevance to me in that at 15-16Mbs I am now getting over 5 times the maximum speed that was previously available to me. It is also slightly more than the 14.5Mbps predicted when I signed up for it. I fear that I will have to be content with this for the foreseeable future.

Sorry, obviously it is relevant in that sense, not what I meant by the comment! I've gone from 3Mb odd to 35Mb odd so I now what you mean.

If your line is directly feed from the exchange you won't get FTTC.
However, under their current plans you're likely to get FTTP eventually instead though this might be quite some time away.. and of course plans can change.

not sure now you can know for a fact that your line does not go via a cab ! just walking / driving around you may well not find a cab and if you do how do you know your line goes via that cab ?
I have asked a FTTC planer about EO lines and sad to say no cab = no FTTCAB !
so lets just hope you do go via a cab if you ask a local BTO guy he may well know
and good luck

I've had it confirmed that lines in my postcode go direct to the exchange.
But there is no visible cab between me and the 100m to the exchange, or anything in the surrounding area. I know ducts can go all over the place, but it is a straight run from the pole to the exchange... It's a pity, but I guess I'll have to live without the extra speed.
Finding a BTO guy is a good idea actually - there's been a lot of things happening in the exchange recently. It would be interesting (if nothing else) to find out what's going on...

surprising there will be no VDSL solution for people on direct EO cables.

Well indeed, it's clear that if the EU isn't connected via a cab their line is short enough to support a very fast connection with VDSL2 equiptment situated in the form of a DSLAM in the Exchange...
