Do I still need line rental?

Having had my FTTP installed, I thought I'd be able to save myself some money by getting rid of my land-line, as I no longer need it for the ADSL, and don't make any voice calls.

So I've duely cancelled it today. But I just had a thought - will this impact the FTTP line?
They're phyically 2 seperate lines, but from a line rental p/o/v, are they treated as one?

(for what it's worth, my 'copper' (well, aluminium to be exact!) line was with SKY on their LLU service, and FTTP is with AAISP)

if the FTTP "line" is indeed fibre to the premises as in http://wiki.aaisp.org.uk/index.php/FTTP then it will be paid for from the broadband charges. The metallic line is indeed a separate entity.

Thanks Phil - it absolutely is FTTP - I have a separate fibre cable coming into my home, so sounds like i will be ok scrapping my old hard line.

Hopefully they'll get Fibre Voice Access sorted out sometime soon though!

Well, my first statement is very much true - I don't make any calls, and receive calls from just 1 person (who will just have to ring our mobile)

My interest in VOF is probably just me be a bit geeky / sad really, and think it would be 'cool' to have it - make use of some of the dozen or so sockets on the BTOR modem!

you can of course use any random VoIP service over your FTTH

Probably worth checking that your contract with AAISP does not "require" you to be paying a separate line rental.
