FTTC mapping...

[link to this post]

Just been playing about mapping some exchanges in Kent. Far easier to work with than a spread sheet!

Ashford (live):- http://batchgeo.com/map/de0f14cd936ba65723975b9a6709...
Sittingbourne (live):- http://batchgeo.com/map/9197e7cf121618fc9fbf4236c634...
West Malling (going live 31st Dec):- http://batchgeo.com/map/995920845bcb66eab593eee25872...

batchgeo seems to work very well although at only a couple of postcodes per second it's very slow.

Seems a handy site, No can see way to use it for other towns or post codes.

Can you give me and others some directions? Please, smile

Broadly....

Open spreadsheet, and use the filters to display data for one exchange
Copy, including header line
Paste into webpage
Hit validate, and set some options (especially the "region" to UK, and the "group by" option to "Deployed")
Hit big green button to create map.
Wait an awfully long time

This is enough to get all the postcodes correct where the postcode only appears once (as either deployed=yes, no or blank), but I think it will get confused in the cases where a postcode appears twice (ie served by 2 cabinets), and especially where the deployment status is different for the 2 cabinets. To get this correct will require more processing of the data in the spreadsheet, to get data in such a way as to only have one line per postcode.

And remember that, when "deployed=yes" it means it is planned; when "deployed=no" it means it was planned but is now either "still planned but deferred until later" or "removed"; when "deployed=blank" it means that service is not planned. In no case does it actually mean deployed.

I did this twice with the data for the Brookwood exchange:
The first was Simple BatchGeo map for Brookwood FTTC, without accounting for duplicate postcodes.
The second was a Fixed BatchGeo Map for Brookwood FTTC where I manually fixed the data for duplicate postcodes, giving a single status for each one.

First time I have tried this so here goes...

I think I have managed to do the North Edgware exchange mapping correctly here -

North Edgware - http://batchgeo.com/map/8c7edc9c6c5cf16c05e4a0021c7d...

Apologies if this is not as it should be but I hope it is.

Anyone got a link to a recent spreadsheet from BT for the FTTC deployment.

The one i'm using seems to be from April 2011. Is this the most recent?

No, its not the latest (we have a much newer document) but I doubt BT will let that one leak again smile

Probably because there are hundreds of places called 'Bedford' in the World (particularly the USA).

Satpal

Which columns did you specify as the address? That is, after hitting "Validate & set options"?

You should only need to specify the region as UK, and then select the postcode column as "State / Province / Postal Code". The other 3 address fields should be set to "none" - and then you can play with the other fields (the "GroupBy" and the advanced ones) as you wish.

I suspect you set a second column - the one with values "Bedford Town" - as part of the address field.

Yes this could well be the case. I might try it again.

Thanks
