we've had a digital region cab down the road for a few months and today i walked past it and a BT open reach 1 has all of a sudden shown up next to it. The digital region has been powered on showing it might actually be available on the September 23rd date shown on there website. And also the BT FTTC might also be available December like there checker says ive got to say after countless changes in date this is looking good.
So come December ill be working out will it be worth going back to VM for a 50/5 (actualy used to get full 50/5 24/7) at £25, or going with digital region (ask4) for upto 40/10 with no management at all but less known at £25, or BT infinity upto 40/10 with traffic management but well known so most likely les problems than digital region at £28 (because im a new customer) been estimated 30/7 but iim like 250M from both cabs in cable length so should be full speed with FTTC hard decision to make.
Don't get me wrong i cant fault sky i just didn't think id miss having the speed to do multiple things at once lol what do you all think the best choice would be considering there all roughly the same cost.
Im inclined to go with VM with 50/5 because i wouldn't mind tivo but the reason i left them in the first place still puts me off and i wouldn't mind a 10meg upload too

I know the rest of the guys will help with you out the anwsers
but bt will start upgrading speed from the nowup to 40/10 which most speed get
and soon to up 80 megs download and 15 megs upload

right thanks for that vms 100 is already available to me but at 35 a month its a bit expensive i know its fast but still i think 28 is the limit for broadband when you take into consideration of line rental and stuff id be happy with 40/10 any faster is a bonus lol.
In this house though we need 30 minimum 3 desktops ps3 xbox wii 2 phones + when friends come around there's upto another 4 laptops 5 phones ipods n all that sorta things and when you want to say download the latest ubuntu while steaming a film in HQ off love film while some ones on a on-line game ect ADSL just don't cut it lol.
fine to do things on there own but in this day its nice to be able to be aable to do it all at once without interfering with others.

upgrading speed from the nowup to 40/10 which most speed get

I wonder if they're already in the process of doing so.
The BT Wholesale checker (for queries round here) is already responding with statements such as received downstream line speed between 30.8 to 40 Mbps and upstream line speed between 7 to 11.5 Mbps.
11.5Mbps upstream? Not bad for a product capped to 10Mbps.
Maybe late August (about the soonest available dates for line activation round here) will answer the question, but I find it odd the checker is already quoting upstream speeds of 11.5Mbps if BT aren't ready to go with the new profile.

my estimate says
Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 1st December 2011. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 30Mbps and upstream line speed of 7Mbps
but surly being so close to the cab it should be full speed thats the route the lines take dot A is were the pole is across from my house and point B is were both a digital region and a BT OR cab is.

What do you define as a reseller, anyone who uses the Openreach network? For instance A&A use the BT Openreach network but they aren't reselling, they just pay for end-user connectivity and transit to their own network. Whereas the likes of ADSL24 resell Entanet, who provide pretty much the end-to-end BB product.
AFAIK nobody resells BT Infinity? There are plenty of other FTTC providers though.

but surly being so close to the cab it should be full speed
Google says 0.3 miles (482 metres), so you're a fair way from the cabinet (you might think it's "close", but vDSL only works at very high speeds over short distances).
On a similar scale (my house to my cabinet), if I lived in the same town, I'd be about where it says "Hill Brow Surgery" (possibly closer) and the checker says 33Mbps for me (although at less than half the distance as you, I'll be much more likely to get full speed).
In any case, BT's figures are often very conservative, so you may well get 40Mbps (or close to it), but I don't know how much of the speed boost (up to 80Mbps on very short lines) will be available to you when BT switch profiles.

right thanks for the info its strange i figured out how to switch it into meter mode on google maps this morning and it comes up at 400M dont suppose it makes much of a diff though lol TBH going back to VM is looking more and more appealing every day lol especial thanks to them having tivo sense i left them

Either way; it seems there's no real reason why (at less than 500m) you shouldn't get full speed from the 40/10 product.
Only time will tell us if that sort of distance will give much more when BT release the brakes.

Just for clarity; are you reselling anyone else's FTTC product, or is it all of your own making (i.e. BT until they hand over to your network)?

Thanks ever so much for all the help in deciding i had a phone call from virgin media this morning.
Because i was a customer before switching to sky they ring me every so off to see if ill go back to them.
They told me if id be willing to reactivate my old account after my contract with sky is up they'll give me free installation + fitting and a free 1TB tivo box + w/e offers they have on at the time EG half price for 6 months or something along lines and told me to just tell them my old account number while ordering to get the offer (account notes or something).
So im going to take them up on the offer next feb and go back to virgin 50meg and switch my tv from sky to TIVO i think i can put up with going from 50HD channels to 19 for the sake of TIVO.
There's actually only 1 channel i can get on sky HD that i cant get on VM and that's nick HD the other 19 are all the ones i actually watch on sky so all good.
Thanks Again for all the help
Ash
