These results may reduce with cross talk but to give an idea I have seen:

(note the /2 max of profile on some results)

300M ali cable - 40/10

500M ali: 30/2

1200M ali 16/4

600M copper - 40/10

1300M copper : 30/6

2000M very old faulty overhead copper / ali mix line: 3/1 - service may have been removed as below standard.

Basically copper in good condition holds up very well. VDSL will almost always provide an improvement at any rate, so if you can get free install I would go for it.

I'm sure BT would do a free install, but I refuse to ever go back to BT for my internet. The grief I got trying to leave them back in the day left a bitter taste in my mouth. I wouldn't have a BT line altogether if I had an alternative.

Digital Region ISP's are all charging various prices for setup fee's.

I got quoted from Ask4 and the setup charge is £75, but includes VDSL2 modem + Wireless N Router and the first months usage. and then £25/month after that. I'm certainly tempted to go for it.

In reply to a post by NuttyMucker:
Hopefully the upload speed will increase as the line only went live on Friday and still in training mode.

I have had three retraining periods where my profile has been reset. In each case my line stated and max sync and went down, it never went up. AFAICT, the training on FTTC works differently to ADSL and works faster.

Stress - the condition brought about by having to resist the temptation to beat the living daylights out of someone who richly deserves it.
