Made the switch to BT infinity although its not being installed until 7th sept 8-1pm. Managed to get the 3 months free offer too.
Been with Be since it launched then we moved house and went to O2. But now, the time has come and it doesnt look like Be/O2 will be rolling out fibre anytime soon. Cannot fault the service from Be and O2 though. At our old house got a solid 21 meg connection and this house gives solid 13 meg.
We are on the London Ponders End exchange and estimates show 40 meg down 10 meg up on infinity. I can see the fibre cabinet at the end of our road and its roughly 80 - 90 metres away.
If I'm honest, I am a little nervous about leaving my old O2 legacy connection for BT after reading all the horror stories but I'm hoping things go well for me.
Well, wish me luck everyone. I'll update with how things go next week.
Cheers

Despite all the horror stories, my switch from Be* to Infinity went without a problem.

Me too, moved from Be to BT Infinity. Faster, lower latency so much better. BT service was excellent, they are not all bad!.

Today is the day. Engineer should be on site anywhere between 8am to 1pm.
Does anyone know if the modem and router have to be in the same room? I was thinking about having the modem in the hallway where the telephone master socket is, then running cat 6 cable into the living room where I'd like to site the router. Also, do you think there would be any issues in me extending the power cable for the modem. Im thinking about cutting the cable and adding a 3 meter section of wire to extend the reach - thats what i have done to my o2 router, been fine for years.
I'll update this thread throughout the day - hopefully it all goes to plan and he/she turns up

In reply to a post by Anonymous: Does anyone know if the modem and router have to be in the same room?
No they don't. The link between the modem and router is Ethernet so will happily go up to around 100' away.
I'll put money on the engineer saying they have to be next to each other, though!

The link between the modem and router is Ethernet cable with a specification of 100 metres maximum. So no problem.
Re the power cable I see no reason you shouldn't extend it as long as you do a proper job. For instance one of the two or three-wire proper connectors, either hard-wired or plug-in (done with the male at the modem end).
I wouldn't add a section in the power cable, meaning two connections needed. I would cut the mains plug off and add a single length from the mains socket. Don't forget to use the original (rating/strength) fuse from the modem's plug. That's how we run the toaster incidentally.
