Re: More FTTC line stats

[re: TheHorseman] [link to this post]

I wonder if anyone can give me a little steer here as to whether everything seems in order. I've been connected for 3 weeks now, started at 37mb, just noticed I've dropped to 33mb. I'm about 600m from the cabinet.

The thing that confuses me is that my line always seemed stable, error rate for the afternoon was 100 CRC 6 FEC 30HEC, but is it normal for the max attainable rate to be higher than the sync speed like this when below the max 40mb speed?

I'm talktalk by the way.

Thanks for any insight. I'm really not an expert on these things. It took me a couple of hours to flash the modem and telnet in!

Cheers!

as more lines get vdsl2 it brings in crosstalk.

I suggest unlikely to be the issue here. Too recent for this estate.

And does it REALLY make that much difference?

I really think that crosstalk is going to be a issue for people on longer lines.

My friends connection is 700 meters long with 0.5 copper.

his sync rate was 39999 and 9999.

Now the last couple of days this has dropped to 27mb.

There is well over a 100vdsl lines now connected on this cab and the bt eng I know said its down to crosstalk and seeing allot of highly populated cabs.

That is a significant drop and would not have expected it. A 39999 sync suggest something over 40000 and to then drop by 35% to 27000 gives cause for concern.

No end of lab testing could show what to expect in the field and it is information like that which BT will be collecting and analysing.

Remember, BT were, and still are, a little hesitant about changing to the 17a (I think I'm right) profile as cross talk could be even more of an issue there.

I have also suffered a drop from 47000 to around 34000 ...

I have been playing with the script & Cygwin all night & am just struggling a little with one section of it to get it to be compatible with a Windows 7 PC.
Hopefully you will soon resolve the problem and then be in a position to guide other non-Linux users with your modified script. smile

asbokid,

Any chance of the scripts for piping linediag info to gnuplot? I could also email the log to your email if you wish.

Hi BHawkes,

Burakkucat and Little_Bird have greatly improved the gnuplot scripts (for Linux and Windows, respectively).

I'm sure they would be happy to pass them on to you smile

Cheers, A
