could you explain the connections with LAN2, just I remember years ago with a dsl modem and a WRT Linksys router that I had to put a firewall rule in to access the modems gui or even access via ssh?

In reply to a post by MrGrumpy:

All I have done is change the LAN IP of the modem to 192.168.1.2 as my router is 192.168.1.1 (if you have no device with the 192.168.1.1 IP then you do not need to change the modem). I then just plugged the LAN2 of the modem into a spare port on my local network switch (its right next to the modem in my case) the switch is connected to the LAN port on my router. I you have a spare LAN port on you router then you can plug the modem LAN2 directly to it. (this assumes that your LAN is using 192.168.1.x - if not then you would need to change the LAN2 IP).

Re: More FTTC line stats

[re: mr_bean] [link to this post]

I have just checked my router again today (Checked earlier in the week) and I am now on the 17a profile.

My line from the cabinet is approx 1.3 miles.

It appears my download throughput has increased by over 5Mb but my upload has remained unchanged.

The first set of stats are from earlier this week;

Re: More FTTC line stats

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

Finally got round to unlocking the modem. Also hooked up a connection from LAN2 to a spare port on the router, and changed the modem IP to avoid conflicts...handy

Going by other stats on this thread, im guessing my line is average, at best. But overall I can't complain, my line is aluminium, and theres 550m of it.

I've noticed that I'm still on 8c, so again, by these stats, I would have little, or nothing to gain by the 80/20 product. Taking the average of the attenuation over downstream Bands 1 and 2, that leaves my line with 32.9dB attenuation...that can't be good!

So does anyone know what line lengths these stats equate to?

TX Power(dBm): -3.9 -13.3 6.3 N/A 8.0 7.9 4.1

Also I assume the max rate attained is exactly that and as far as speed upgrades go? So until BT introduce another freq profile I will not see any higher?

Line length? Sorry, no.

The best I can do is to show you some statistic from a line that has been (electronically) measured as 440 yards (400 m) from the NTE5/A to the PCP - FTTC tie-cables --

well my line must be longer than that I assume, although the green cab is not more than 300m away however my line must go round all the houses tongue or its a poor line!
