Got some snaps of jdsu today showing every screen in relation to vdsl.
Stats are as follows:

vdsl2 17
up 10000K down 40000K
max rate up 49282K 113109K
capacity 20% 35%
noise margin 30.7db 26.0db
line atthn 14.8db 11.5db
signal attn 14.9db 11.4db
tx power up 2.6dbm 12.1dbm
psd -64.5 -58.6

est length 0.4km

actual length using tdr - 335.4m (confirmed 0.5 copper). D side length is measured with whole line connected as dslam causes a regular "dis spike" every other second.

lots of screens showing uas crc etc but all values zero.

Engineer advised that the openreach modem tends to sync faster than the engineers jdsu so looking good for future speed uplifts.

hi all just managed to get hacked firmware installed for my modem, how do i find out what profile im on and if im possibly going to get any sort of speed increase when 17a is enabled ( if not already ), my actual current speends are around 30mb/s down and 7 mb/s up, i found something in my modem which states attainable rate os 54mb/s or thereabouts, i did copy and paste the acutual readings but i wouldnt paste into this for some reason, will try again.

got it

Line Status
Help
Downstream Upstream
Attainable rate (kbit/s) 54112 6827
SNR margin (dB) 13.9 6.1
Line attenuation (dB) 0 0
Output power (dBmV) 11.9 2.9

telnet into the modem, Login admin, password admin, then when ATP> appears, type sh and hit enter.

Then enter the xdslcmd command.

at the ATP> prompt type sh <return> to drop into the busybox shell, then you can use xdslcmd

If you are on 17a, it seems that is all your line can handle, at least until BT come up with further technology to get more out of lines, like vectoring etc.

What is your actual sync rate, are you syncing at 32meg? If so, that is as high as you're gonna get, for the time being anyway.

When BT launch the 80/20 product, all they will do is remove the 40down/10up sync rate cap, but if you are not hitting either the downstream or upstream caps on 17a, then it will be of no benefit to you I'm afraid.

As for the max attainable rate - although it can be used to approximate the speed your line could be capable of, I wouldn't put 100% trust in that figure. I'm still on 8c, and my max attainable rate is nearly 3Meg lower than my actual sync rate. So it's either a bug in the firmware (possible), or it's just not very accurate.

From the JDSU.

Day off, so I thought I'd plug the in a JDSU and see what it showed.
I do wonder if the stats from the unlocked modems being reported on here are correct with regard to the max attainable rate. Some posts are showing little improvement, mine looks like a pleasing hike is possible, I guess time will show whose will prove to be correct ? My D-side line length is just over 500 meters.

Current sync rate 40000/10000

Attenuation 17db Profile 17a d/s snr 16.7db

Max rate up and down 22057/77821

The instrument often shows a sync rate lower than that achieved by the Openreach modem, so maybe it will just miss the full 80000.

It looks as though the "max attainable" figure is actually "max attainable at 6dB SNRM" thus it is possible for this figure to be lower than the current sync if the SNRM drifts below 6dB. If you resync at that point your sync speed will probably drop. If you don't resync it will hold (unless the SNRM falls further) - I had a 39999Kbps sync at about 3dB SNRM for something like 10 days just before the switch to 17a but eventually the inevitable happened and the speed dropped to 37M.

"Probably" BTW because I have noticed that my modem does tend to report a gradual slight fall in max attainable and SNRM over a few days following a resync which tends to go back up if I force another resync. It never approaches 3dB though - usually about 0.5dB "improvement"
