It's more likely that Sky have allocated the temporary number so they can release the real number to BT.
I'm getting a new number (BT said they were unable to use the old one, but may be able to transfer it across after the event).
In any case; my line is already on the BT network (so it's not a Sky temporary number), as the 17070 BT line test facility works (that's how I knew the number - no other way to find out, as I can't use the phone for outgoing calls).
So the new (temporary) number is a BT assigned one (meaning they've already made changes to their database - so why not just use the correct number).
EDIT: Still posting via my BE connection (meaning we're half way through the time-slot and the engineer hasn't yet reached the cabinet, nor disconnected my physical line from the BE equipment in the exchange).
