Re: FTTC/VDSL2 Line Errors

[re: lockyatlrg] [link to this post]

I haven't got a portable radio unfortunately so I can't easily try the radio trick.

I guessing part of the problem perhaps is where the master socket is installed in my property. It's basically in one corner of the lounge right next to two satellite feeds, the aerial feeds and numerous electrical points. So within a very small footprint there's the modem, an LCD TV, Sky+ HD box, home cinema, WDTV Live and DECT phone. I guess all of which could be a source of interference?!?

As a result I've turned everything electrically powered in that room off apart from the modem and router. I'll monitor the error rate and see if there's any discernible difference.

Got a plasma TV close by? I had to sell my plasma TV due to it knocking out the ADSL line, every time the tv was switch on my ADSL used to read thousands of crc errors per second and lost sync.

If you don't have a plasma tv see if next door has one or even further away.

DECT handset?!?

[re: lockyatlrg] [link to this post]

Following on from my previous post I turned of all the electrical items and reset the modem. Five minutes later the error count was 10,000+. Damn... Resets modem again.

Then I disconnected the phone line and turned off the base station. Five minutes later the error count was 10,000+. Damn again... Resets modem again.

Scratching my head I'm walking round the room looking for any other electrical items I might have missed.. Nope can't see any.... wait a sec! I'd left both DECT handsets turned on. Let's try turning them off as well.

It's now been nearly 15 minutes and the error count is 76. Ok it's not zero but it's a lot better than 10,000+.

Has anyone else had issues with DECT handsets themselves in the past?

Edit - Another 15 minutes have passed and the errors are slowly rising. 400+ now but still much less than before.

If the line errors have settled down has your sync speed increased ot snr margin increased?

SNR margin has gone up ever so slightly but sync speed has dropped a bit. Possibly because I've been disconnecting the modem multiple times in short succession?!?

Saying all of that as I type this errors have gone up again -

CRC errors 8472
FEC errors 638
HEC errors 2228
