Now my FTTC date has now changed to 31st December, great! Also the adsl checker predicts I should recieve 32.4Mbps down and upstream line speed of 7.5Mbps. According to those predictions what would I recieve in practice?

My FTTC cab date has changed to 31st December also. This is now the 3rd date change (originally 31st June, then 31st September and now 31st December). However the cabinet was installed a few weeks before the end of June. The cabinet is not humming yet though so I guess that's the reason for the delay and it being pushed back to another placeholder date.
Anyway, in regard to your question, from what I read the wholesale checker can be a little conservative with its speed estimates and most cases you can expect a speed around that or a little higher?

And I have a FTTC CAB (installed a couple of months ago), an exchange supposedly enabled but no service date offered for FTTC on my line!
If I put the postcode in the checker is yes I am FTTC enabled but not the telephone number. The post code is all on the one CAB!
Openreach are very confused over all this!

30th September then
31st December then back to
30th September and surprise surprise.......
31st December
Will give it till Mid October and then go to Virgin. BT convinced me to leave Virgin and join them as Infinity would be with my by March 31st......livid is not the word.

Delays have been everywhere, just have to continue to wait.
Though why did you leave Virgin before Infinity was working, as estimates given have always slipped back.

I had a much lower download estimate (26.6 if I remember correctly) & I ended up with the full 38717/10000 profile so the checker can be very conservative to say the least.

didn't know about delays and was told it would be available by 31st March....didn't mention this was an estimate.

Ignore the date being changed to December.
Basically. every quarter, the BT wholesale checker simply moves dates on by 3 months if the particular cabinet is not yet live. Once the cab is close to being RFS the date will be amended to a closer, more acurate date rather than they default 31st December.
So basically, because the cab wont be ready in time for 30th September, they just move the date 3 months automatically. This doesn't mean the cabinet deployment has been delayed, just that they are working on a 3month turnaround.
Naturally dates that keep moving back for months on end may have a particular issue as to why that cabinet isn't RFS yet.

Thanks thats given a pretty good insight into things

Same has happened to me - date changed from 30th September to 31st December.
However, according to http://www.openreach-communications.co.uk/superfast/... , my exchange is 'accepting orders'.
But when I phone up A&A, they use the BT checker and computer says no.
So... does this mean that.. only if you go with BT Infinity, will you be able to place an order and secondly... does placing an order mean you are put on the list (first come first serve) so when the cabinets are actually live, you then are guaranteed to get upgraded infront of everyone else?
|
|
|

No, nothing to do with Infinity.
Yes, the exchange is "Live" as it's capable of serving the 'service' but this doesn't mean you can get the service on your individual line. Your cabinet isn't ready yet, so it make no odds that the exchange is accepting orders at this stage.

Yep, same here. original date was Sept 2010, then I keep getting the usual quarter-year push backs, so in total i've had a 15 month delay. What I think is my nearest cab hasn't been touched yet so it'll be at least until first half of 2012 judging by what people say on here. Sods law means that virtually every other cab around me has been upgraded from what I can tell.
Wouldn't mind really if I wasn't right on the edge of my exchange coverage so I get max 0.9 down and 0.3 up. Can't even stream a thing. All of this whilst living only about 9 miles from central london. Cable providers like Virgin aren't available here either.
Phew glad I got that whine off my chest..sorry about that.

PM me your postcode and I'll find out the precise cab just to confirm.

Hi,
The date on the checker has just been put back for my address to 31-Dec. All the roads around me have been enabled if I check using house numbers and post codes.
Could I ask you to check my cabinet location and date if I PM'd you my address? I can't find the damn thing anywhere!
Regards,
Simpic

Just as an update - my cabinet has gone live today! - was a flurry of activity at the cabinet for a few days after my last posting and then hurrah! Checker was updated today to say that I can now order FTTC! Yay!
So moral of the story, the checker can be updated again at any time, just because the date has been pushed back by 3 months does not mean it wont be updated again a few weeks later or even less than a week later in my case!

Just as a matter of interest, what d'ya think you will be paying per month for fibre optic broadband service? We've got another year @ our exchange, before getting a sniff

Like others my availability date has been pushed back to Dec 31st.

Docs off here suggest taking orders now.
James a bit of an imposition I've PM'd my postcode to you. If you could do cab check that would be great, if not no problem.

Same here, so I conclude that my cabinet isn't ready but the exchange is so can't be much longer - I think my cabinet is just lacking power.
|
|
|
I assume something has gone wrong with my FTTC cabinet All the other cabinets, both closer and further away from the exchange than mine, have been enabled. My cabinet is one of two in the entire area that hasn't been taking orders this month. Even a cabinet a few hundred meters away is live, and that was only installed last month!
There is no method to this madness. Things get connected up, hurriedly installed, plonked down, and then abandoned for months on end. Meanwhile, other cabinets get installed and go live almost instantly..
It's saddening Our cabinet was one of the first to go in. It had power installed 3 months ago. It had fibre installed around the same time. Now it just sits there, crying out for a little bit of attention. BT sucks. I'm tempted to re-order line bonding, because 18 months of delays and broken promises is more than taking the pee.

I went with ADSL 24's Fibre 45 Office Pro http://adsl24.co.uk/broadband/business/ - will be mostly in the house during the evening so works well for me (and the odd time I will be at home all day), so that package suits me fine .
