Just got back in form work and greeting me in my inbox was a warning of Streetworks around my nearest BT cabinet.
I did a quick check on some of the Streetworks listed nearest to me through ELGIN and highlighted the NGA BT works that I found between Blean and the City centre.

I was a little surprised to get the warning as the last Openreach list had Canterbury knocked back to June 2012. Still, I am in no hurry as I am lucky enough to have 25mb Wireless for the moment.
If you want to keep tabs on works around your nearest BT cabinet, goto the ELGIN site and setup a search (I drew an area round my nearest cab by using the map filter) and you can get a heads up when the cabinets are being installed (that and any other works that happen in the same area).

Took the dogs out for a walk earlier tonight and spotted one of these cabinets on Tyler Hill Road near to the Londis.

Interesting as they had changed the date back to end of 2012.
Shame they won't be doing the cabinet I connect to as I'm in a so called "conservation area" in the City centre.

Sounds about right if the first cabinets are just going in for the exchange.

Yep, cabinets going into Canterbury as I type.

BT retail now list Canterbury as December 2011.
I've sent an e-mail to KCC asking if the cabinet I connect to will be enabled.

Who's KCC?

Kent County Council

Why are you emailing us, I mean KCC, to find out if your nearest cab is set to be enabled?
I may be able to find out if you send me a pm.

Which area of Canterbury are you in?
I'm in Blean (could you tell by my post ) and would have thought that the first cab's would be nearer to the centre (or at least anywhere other than my side of the city).
The only reasons I can think that we are getting cab's this early is that we are not far from the University of Kent (which may mean shorter runs to existing fibre points) and also that they need to come through Blean to get to Whitstable (if Canterbury is being used to serve the Whitstable area).

they need plamning permission in a conversaiton alre rather than planning notification -- may be worth checiking as some time there is a lag with those

We had our "cabinets" in Rayleigh, Essex stuffed with new copper wiring last year sometime, still waiting to be connected to "fibe optic" (with FTTC status - RFS date set : 01/03/2012)
Amazing really, how the time's flown by, with only 5 months left ............ assuming no rescheduling to a later date.

The cab nearest to me is going to be worked on soon enough so I will take a walk up and have a chat with the gang on site.
I'm not in a great hurry, personally, as I am **edit** enjoying highspeed broadband now** with my VFast connection .

Making do !
Nooo, I don't mean that in a bad way . I was being a tad sarcastic if that didn't come across.
I'm extremely happy to be able to have a VFast connection at 25mb.

Couldn't check today. Should be able to get an answer Thursday.

Well after a long gap between the first (and many cancelled) install dates, the current Streetworks permit for my nearest cab is now 1st February.
I'll probably take a wonder up and see how things are going (or I may be asked to for my work).

June 2012 also for here (Newington, Edinburgh), but there's a down-time next week on my cab all night, and in a week or two BT are doing roadworks all around here - looking at the pattern, it's clearly between the cabinets.
