In reply to a post by nalla:
paranoid about what roberto.
The communication perhaps not being from BT, nor the "engineer" that turns up.

My basic reason being yours is the first example I have seen of this, so I am suspicious. Just as in the phone calls, "I am calling from the Microsoft Support to tell you your computer is sending out viruses", and the emails from banks about your security or credit card having been compromised. If the "bank" is your own, you may think it genuine. If it isn't your own then you know.

The problems with the OR modems are well known. Perhaps someone has developed a new scam.

Those V2s must be really bad for OR to be tracking them down and removing them. I spent 2 months trying to get an engineer visit and gave up in the end. maybe I should get a 2V off the bay and wait for them to turn up, hehe.

While they likely can tell what hardware version you have plugged in, it's also likely they simply have a list of serial numbers and who they were shipped to.

Ours doesn't even get hot and it sits within a foot of a radiator.

Same here.

My August 2010 modem barely even gets warm, let alone hot.

ah with you, well the letter stated i had to contact kelly communications to arrange an appointment for an engineer, which i did but first i cross checked the phone number against one that i know to be that of kelly communications, so things should be ok ( hopefully )

like i stated in my original post i am on bt option 3 with fibre currently, when my line check stated that i could have bt infinity for the first time last friday, i ordered infinity, i then checked the status of my order monday and i had been cancelled,i was going to phone up after work but this letter turned up, i presume they are changing this due to me ordering infinity.

ive had no problems with mine either, the engineer stated that the new modem would allow for a bit of extra speed, so maybe people on infinity get a good modem and people on bt option 3 get a lower spec modem.
