Infinity Profiles

When i had Infinity installed last week the engineer showed me the line was at 40 down and 10 up but when i use the BT tester site it is showing my line is configured to the next profile down. As the crow flys the cab is 40m away with the line length being maybe 80, the last 20m was also replaced from the pole to the back of my NTE around 6 months ago.

Now to be honest i am not in reality going to miss that extra Mbit or what ever it is but i am surprised its set lower than the top speed.

My modem is a 3B one so when i flash it to get line stats is there a specific one or do i just use the hg612_unlocked_sp10_firmware.zip one?

that firmware should work, unable to tell you what modem version mine is but line characteristics seem to vary alot, there are a few posts on here with line stats miles better than mine at distances similar to mine. Just seems to be the luck of the draw. I can tell you I won`t pay for an 80/20 product unless its free upgrade, thats how much little improvement there is over my current stats

i have read and read the FTTC line stats thread but i am going dizzy reading between the line stats lol

If you are saying that the BT Speedtest says your profile is 38717 then that is the max on 40Mb, so you would be on the top profile, not the next one down!

Your line is probably connected at 39999 but the IP Profile is max'ed to 38717. This is to ensure that the data sent through your connection is never actually higher than what it can sustain.

Interestingly along with profile 17a I found my IP profile speed now reported as 38715Kbps. Not sure whether this slight change is universal.

Apologies for jumping on this thread but I'm intrigued. Half the time I've checked the BT speedtester it reports a throughput in excess of the line profile by up to 1.5Mbps. I also use a Fritz!Box 7390 on an FTTC line (for stability - the OR modem setup had download speeds constantly up and down, so it was suggested I tried a "better" router) and it reports an actual (not the even higher attainable) throughput at 6Mbps above the reported IP profile. I'd say this was an error but both the router and the tbbMonitor running on the PC regularly also report actual downloads running up to a couple of Megs in excess of the IP profile. I suppose it could be that the profile jumps about a bit and I've just used the test at the "wrong" times?
