WBC End Of August

So my small village exchange (Dedham) is due to be upgraded to 21CN WBC status on the 31/08/2012 ....

Do you think this will help our chance of getting fibre ?

I don't see why we are being upgraded. ADSL2 will not help long lines on our exchange ?

I get fulll 8128 kbps but I think i'm to far for a boost from ADSL2.

30DB Line Attenuation.

As I have said why our exchange ? Will we piggyback other fibre exchanges ???

Adsl2+ should give you at least 14000kbps sync with that attenuation figure.

Lots of exchanges are getting switched to the 21CN on ADSL2+ it's an easy switchover and has advantages all round with no draw backs, although you are right a long line may only see marginal improvements, but anything is better than nothing. It won't have any influence on FTTC/P deployment though.

We had 30dB on ADSL1, getting 8128 before swapping to fibre. We've just swapped things about, and the second line into the house (which is predicted to get slightly less than the first) is syncing at around 14,500 on ADSL2+, showing 33dB attenuation. That increase of 3dB is expected when swapping from 1 to 2+, so it seems that both lines have the same basic attenuation.

Our exchange got FTTC about 6 months before 21CN. For FTTC it is treated as a child to one of the nearby exchanges, which is one of the major node locations in 21CN - though I have no idea if that is a coincidence or not.

There are some reasons for BT to choose to upgrade to 21CN that aren't based on end-users. For example:
- Out of capacity on 20CN
- End-of-life on the old equipment, so no manufacturer support
- 21CN equipment cheaper for BT to operate & maintain
- 21CN equipment will not be part of the Ofcom price-controls in rural (market 1) areas.

Also an upstream of over 1Mbps.
