FTC routers

I was chatting to someone today who is looking at getting FTC, but not with Bt, so they need a router, they have a old virgin cable router and asked me if that would work with FTC, I presume it will, but thought I would ask here to make sure. He said it is a netgear and got wireless G, so I presume it is getting on a bit.

It somehow ended up packed into a box when he moved home a few years back.

99% positive it will work fine, as long as it supports PPPoE authentication.

My first router (Linksys BEFSR41 - circa 2000) would have worked on FTTC, but it had only a 10megabit/sec WAN port. Kinda limiting

Oh yes, I forgot about the WAN port, i am so used to ADSL modems.

He sent me a email last night and the unit is a Netgear WGR614, looking at the specs on the netgear site it have

I presume that will be fine.

If I go for fibre I need to think what router i will get myself. i do like Netgear to be honest, well the router part of my netgear is fine, the modem is not so fine.
