Campaign to get BT to put FTTC cabinets in areas not chosen

I have been told that if you obtain enough signatures from residents that BT will put cabinets in areas that they have so far decided not to install them.

I live and run a computer support business in Crowborough (tn63bt) and although the exchange is being upgraded in April and cabinets are appearing nearby, I have been told my area and another area including an industrial park is not due to get FTTC.

Can anybody confirm if this is true and if so what wording to use or example forms available to use etc.

Only cabs 24/25/27/28/29 have no dates for FTTC.

Industrial estates have not enabled by BT, as it would take away their leased line buinsess ie their 'bread and butter'.

For those cabs not being planned, the residents served by those cabs can register their interest on the BT openreach page.

Since the remaining cabs have been left blank its entirely possible that BT will return and infill later on as this has happened across many exchanges.
Who said to you that you're cab would not be enabled?

Since when was the not enabling of cabinets with businesses attached a policy?

Cabinets serving industrial estates will often have a very low number of lines, making it less economic to spend £30k+ on a full cabinet solution .

The standard industrial estate with a mix of garages, warehouses is probably not going to have any or just a handful of leased lines, and those with them are likely to retain them for the higher SLA and quicker repair times.

At the end of the day, BT is a business.. can't really force them to day anything.

I too have come across the "policy" that BT will not routinely enable industrial estates or business parks with FTTC and they will evaluate each one based on the type of criteria mentioned. Current leased line or ISDN usage, ADSL installations that would be upgraded, telephony usage, various rapid response/care packages. It may not be written as such, or published but there is certainly something in the system.

Common sense really.

If I was running BT I wouldnt roll out FTTC to leased line areas.

The two large towns that have been enabled near to me have not had either of their industrial estates enabled, a person enquired to BT about why and they where reffered to my local CC, who do not know as BT wont say why.

Do you have a source for that cabinet cost?

Is it routine £30k?
