Re: Cabinet Question

[re: ccxo] [link to this post]

Could someone please answer me this...?

Do all PCP's need to get a FTTC DSLAM cabinet next to them?

I'm in Corby and I've seen several shiny new fibre DSLAM cabs going up in the surrounding streets but my street still has the lame old PCP that's been there decades.

I know Corby is still 'in progress' (date keeps going back!!!), just wondered what happens if my PCP never gets a fibre cab next to it?

Regards,
Neill

Those connected to a given copper cabinet need to have a new DSLAM cabinet to get FTTC services. There was a presentation very early on that showed alternative solutions. A combined DSLAM/PCP in a new shell and top box mounted on top of the existing copper cabinet but not aware of any cases where these have been deployed.

So basically all the PCP's should end up with a new DSLAM cab next to them then?

Not always - sometimes you might route to a DSLAM which isn't next to your nearest PCP..

Eventually I think we'll see pretty much all the PCP's dying off in favour of DSLAM cabs once FTTP comes into play.

My town had FTTC cabs first appearing in Sept 2010. Its now March 2012 and my street still has no FTTC but all the surrounding streets do.

Its a complex process of planning permission, power, and ground works :-/

Judging by your sig though you still managed to get a fibre service, as long as they can route me to the cab in the next street I'll be happy!

Thanks everyone for the advice.

Neill
