What Does ''Street Side Dslam Cab Nmauhz '' Mean

Checked a few postcodes for the Cab ( 2 ) near me and found :
'Street Side Dslam Cab Nmauhz '' in the Street listings to choose from.
There in a fire station near by about 300 yards away from cab ( 2 ) with another cab ( 5 ) outside it.
Bt have just layed a new cable from the old Cab ( 5 ) to a new fibre Cab about
50 feet away on the oher side of the road from cab ( 5 )

cab 2 -------------------------cab 5 ----------new firbe cab here @

'Street Side Dslam Cab' means an FTTC cab, so a cab will be installed (if not already) somewhere in that postcode area.

Nmauhz is Openreach identifier for that cab. Each cab has a unique identifier.

How do you know this ?

I know what cabinet I am connected to but don't know the distance of it from my house !?

Proably from the December postcode list, or another source.

As you know what Cab you are on, you can roughly work out the route the copper goes back to the cabinet either by walking the route or via google maps etc.

My postcode is EN4 8QF. Enter that into Google earth and go to the top of the road, turn left and enter street view. The nearest cab is on the right and there is a black car (Vauxhall ?) parked next to it. carry on down to a zebra crossing, and there is a street on the right with one cab there. That is a pre-FTTC photo and my FTTC cab is next to it (on the left, so it's the nearer of the two to the crossing).

Interesting.

I would try the same with my postcode but I don't know where cabinet 9 is although I do know of one BT cabinet and the next time I go past it (tomorrow) I will see if it has a number on it to identify it !
