DSLAM marking on the pavement

Hi all, I'm new here.

Just noticed up the road that a telephone cabinet has dslam written in yellow next to it.

Our exchange (LCACC) is due to be enable on the 1st June 2012, really looking forward to it as I can't really put up with 1.4 meg down (on a good day) anymore

My question is how long before the new bigger cabinet is put in?

Find a piece of string - but a short one should do

my FTTC cab was installed about 6 months ago, still no sign of any further action. Ive been checking the online roadworks search at my local council, you can see now BT are busy digging up the roads everywhere to unblock collapsed ducts etc.

I find local roadworks is a good source of info, helped me spot when the cab was actually due.

At least the cab is a start!

Update: Checked the local roadworks pages for Lancashire this morning, sure enough the page is now littered full of NGA works!

I have narrowed down possible cabinets supplying my house to 2, and they are both being installed over the next two months as shown below

Once the tie cable, power, spine cable and fibre are in and the headend ready you may actually be able to order something before the year is out

That's good news.

Openreach quote the turn around time as 5 months, but obviously problems can arise.

Mine has been installed for about 6 months now but it's not gone live.

Hopefully by the end of the year you will be good to go

I really hope it doesn't take that long, I've been planning a 48 hour gaming livestream with my mates for charity. Was planning for it to happen in July

Can't believe they'd leave cabs ready and waiting when they need to get their investments for them back.

Putting the cab on the street is the easy bit, it only takes them a day if that.

The power supply, cabling etc take the time. Don't forget they have to unblock the ducts right back to the exchange.

I would say you have zero chance of July but at the end of the day it's just a waiting game.

It's in Openreach's interest to do it as quick as poss but there is a lot more to it than you may think

You will notice in the roadworks site in the future there will be at lot of jobs saying something like 'excavate road to repair 3 blocked ducts' etc. that's when they are preparing to pull the fibre in.

They don't open the exchange for orders until 10 cabs are ready according to the openreach website.

Ah well, i've seen large rolls of cable being put down manholes in the pavement on the main roads. Guess this is probably the cabling, but yes i'll wait.
