[gulp]!
You are served by Cabinet 1. All lines on that cabinet will be able to get fibre. However, according to the December data, you will not be getting FTTC. It will be FTTP.

Put your number into this checker. You may get more info, including speed estimates which should be FTTP type. It doesn't return that using just your postcode.

Don't know where you checked, but that is Cabinet 4 and scheduled for FTTP like the OP. In "Cornwall - Tranche 2", whatever/whenever that means.

I would not get your hopes up, that spread sheet is very inaccurate for Cornwall. We was down for FTTP with no due date when it was updated in September time, then when I checked the wholesale checker around December it said it was going live the very next day but with FTTC.

It seems that we are left in the dark until the very last moment, not sure if OR know them self what's going where tongue

Cabs have numbers on them. But FTTP will probably be completely underground, unlike FTTC where a fibre cabinet is installed near to the existing phone one.

It seems like BT use "FTTP" to mean "parts of the exchange area are getting it, everyone else is getting FTTC".

My exchange is listed as FTTP. There is precisely one cabinet with any form of upgrade at the moment - the one for the road I live in (FTTC). No one else in the village can get anything, FTTC or P. FTTP is planned for the exchange-only lines and for the new housing estates according to the spreadsheet which seems fairly logical.

The nearby town is correctly listed as "FTTC/P". 99% of the town is upgraded to FTTC, with a few places on FTTP.

(this is also in Cornwall).

Hi your postcode is split between exchange only lines and a single cab, pcp 23 where only 3% of the lines go to and it is currently not planned for FTTC.

96% of the lines of the postcode TR138PS are exchange only lines, these cannot recieve FTTC as they have no cabinet.

Your Father in law postcode TR138PQ is served by 2 cabs that are both enable for FTTC, 27% of the postoce lines go to cab 5 and 72% go to cab 8.

Their is however a planned upgrade for exchange only lines in Cornwall by BT, we are still waiting to see what this will be.

I live at postcode TR13 8WE, there has been a new cabinet(?) built underground at the top of my street.

The openreach website says accepting orders but when i try the order process it says its not available.

Any update of when it will be here and if my cabinet(?) will be infinity enabled? Also will it be FTTC or FTTP.

The chamber will house an aggregation node/splitter node most likely. Has it had the fibre bits installed? i.e.

http://www.farina1.com/fibre/wgc_media/source/IMG_44...

The chamber construction is likely to be a very different team to those who will install the fibre tubing and then evenutally blow the fibre through.

Hi there,

Out of interest, where is it that you locate the info regarding which postcodes / cabinets will receive what?

I've entered a few numbers of friends into the number checker, and only found one who can receive fibre at this time.

My post code is TR138FH. Is there any way to find out if I'll receive fibre here, and whether it would likely be FTTP or FTTC?

Many thanks,
Vin.

It comes from the leaked December spreadsheet from OR.

Your postcode comes back wiith this

WWHELS HELSTON TR138FH {WWHELS}{P17} 0 100% 3.02 Cornwall - Tranche 2 YES FTTP

You are planned to have FTTP, the data is 4 months old and does not give an exact date of enablement.

Cornwall is going to have 80% fibre coverage and the remaining 20% will be wirless/satelite mix for the most remote places.

Thanks for the good news.

The when isn't as important to me, so long as I know it's coming.
Living in a block of flats I wasn't sure what to expect.
To be honest, at best I expected FTTC, as I thought it would be easier/cheaper for them to just hook up our cabinet, and boom, the whole block is connected.

If I'll really be on an FTTP line by the end of the year though, I'll be delighted.

I'm still on a standard ADSL MAX line at the moment, so that's going to be a real step up!

Thanks for the info, and the very prompt reply.
Cheers,
Vin.

EDIT: and thanks for the tip about the spreadsheet. Found a copy and searched a few postcodes of friends and family. All showed FTTP, except for one which only showed FTTC, although strangely theirs is also the number I checked, which shows FTTP available right now, proving again that this spreadsheet is out of date, and isn't necessarily 100% accurate. Nice to have some idea though.

Out of interest, anybody reading in Helston who's been hooked up to fibre yet?
None of my friends or family can get it yet, according to the checker, bar the one I previously mentioned.

Was just wondering if anybody's online?
Shame we can't get some kind of official update regarding which parts of Helston are currently hooked up, and some kind of timetable for when the rest of us can jump in. I think that's the worst part right now, lack of info as to what's going on.

I guess we'll all be connected some time.

I don't use it much down there anyway - and the cottage has it, as I said. Can do anything necessary from there, otherwise its GPS on Nokia maps, which unless you are very drunk you don't need to get home from the Atlantic, and if you were that bad you wouldn't be able to operate an N900 anyway.

I've got O2 unlimited wifi, but of course that is very variable down near the harbour where we are. OK when unsure where you have ended up in the car smile.

Favourites are The Harbour outside, not inside, and The Ship - in the bar, as we can have the dog with us while we eat. Blue Haze and The Lugger occasionally, Nauti But Ice, Roland's, and the Horse & Jockey of course! I wonder what the pasty prices will be now frown.

Interestingly, Porthleven was a trial site for Mesh wireless years ago.
They were quite happy to allow dogs in the Atlantic (not family area at the rear) but if you can get a table in the front , especially by the windows , you can enjoy a nice meal with your best friend.
The Harbour is nice outside , weather allowing , but can get a bit too busy in the summer. The steep steps to the Ship are a bit of an issue.
No internet access where we stayed several times. Just about get by with tethering the phone.

I was just wondering if there had been a more up to date list leaked out, or that members here have access to, that may give more current information?

As far as I can tell, the same streets as before can still get fibre, with far more impressive speeds than I was expecting to see, but no further rollout seems to have occurred?

starting to feel like that's it, Helston has fibre, but only for some lucky residents.

I assume the rollout will continue around the town at some point, but was just wondering if anybody had any more specific information, particularly in my case, regarding the postcode TR13 8FH.

I'm impressed to see some users, according to the checker at least, being able to get 70mbps down, and a fantastic 20mbps up.

I've tried calling BT, but can't get any local information from them.
I'm just wondering, approximately, when my postcode may be due to get a fibre product available, be that FTTC or FTTP.

I realise that I'm simply being impatient, however, any kind of update would be gratefully received.

Many thanks as always,
Vin.

Many thanks for your response.

I guess we're just getting a little frustrated here!
after the initial batch of connected streets, I don't know anyone in the area who can yet sign up, the checker always saying that Fibre isn't available yet.

I guess when it is, I'll be kissing goodbye to my 15 year connection to Demon, that started life as a 33.6kbps connection, to 56k, through ISDN and eventually ADSL.

I wish they offered a fibre option to be honest, and I'd stay with them longer... but... well maybe I'll come back to them in the future if I can get a good fibre option with them.

After hearing many bad things about BT Broadband, I hope their Infinity packages are reliable, and fast at all times.... I'm looking forward to finding out for myself!

Kind regards,

Yes, you're absolutely right.... I've already taken note in your signature that ADSL24 offer FTTC.

Because I've never been in a position to get fibre myself, I've never really spent much time looking into providers, and am only really aware of Infinity, and Virgin's offering, which I've already decided against, after having already spoken to other Virgin Subscribers.

Once I can get connected, I'll have a good browse around this site and see what's available. Something with a great upstream, and no FUP's (or at least a very generous one so I never have to worry about it) are essential.

so, your point is taken, thanks!
Just have to wait until my area is connected.

TR13 8GA is on cabinet 25, but the expected speeds are poor. 1.87 times current. I guess you are a long way away from it.

Schedule in December was Tranche 2 of the special (BDUK?) scheme running for Cornwall. There is an April spreadsheet but it hasn't leaked out yet so far as I know.

Anyone have any clue what is going to be done about the straight to exchange lines? I imagine most of the shops in town are direct to the exchange and would benifit from fibre. Are we getting FTTP? Would the cost be greater? All we ask for is some information. Thats all smile even if its planned for year dot at least we would know smile

News article from the news section of think broadband.

Update 1:30pm: We asked Openreach about the issue of Exchange Only lines back in April 2012, and received a response regarding those lines or groups of lines run directly from the exchange, which is usually those closest to the exchange or new estates located further from the exchange. Openreach has said that where technically and economically feasible they will provide either a FTTC (via new cabinet) or FTTP service, this is done on a case-by-case basis as the roll-outs progress. We believe pressure to hit the 66% figure as soon as possible, means these areas will mainly be waiting until 2014, or for the various BDUK projects to start producing results.

If your area is deemed viable then either FTTP or FTTC will be rolled out.

In Cornwall (which is distinct from other BDUK areas), hence so far ahead of the curve. The economics may be different, but the same get the easy cabinets done first will most likely apply.

Once fibre on demand is out, I suspect the Exchange Only issue will start to be worked on, as smaller local teams can handle this rather than the transient teams that rush from one cab to another at present.

Not a long way from the cabinet, by road maybe a couple hundred meters max, but from the exchange yes, were on the edge of the town, unsure actual distance, but about 1 - 1.5miles

Distance from the exchange is irrelevant on FTTC. There may be an error in the data, or the nearby cabinet isn't number 25, (have you checked - it should be on it?), or the cabling from it to you goes in a mad loop somewhere rather than straight - which does happen sometimes.

What ADSLx speed do you get?

Yep Cab 25, and no more than 300 meters total as the road/path goes. The cab can only be 1994/5 and our street was one of the first build connected to that cab.

BB speed currently is 10mb down, 0.7mb up. Checking the BT site it says I support 14.5mb

Been for another walk and Cab 25 is the only one on our estate with the next nearest I could find was Cab 7 down by Fire Station, and this one looks like its gone Fibre already, as new box next to it.

Send a email to that address, add your phone number and address and they should get back to you within 7-10 days, its the most accurate information you can get.

You could also try the Superfast Cornwall team, as they should be able to give you some information.

BT have installed cabinet 31 on the outside wall of the exchange.
Only one of our lines has moved to it so far.
16.5 meg down and 1.2 meg up on adsl2+ to 27 meg down and 5.6 meg up on fibre.
And its cheaper for unlimited fibre than what we were paying for adsl2+

Cheers.

TR13 8YE was directly connected to BT exchange but, out of the blue, FTTC arrived some months ago and speeds are now constantly 75/20. Engineer took all of 10 minutes to connect me and didn't even have time for a cuppa. The cab is on Church Hill somewhere and must be pretty close with my speeds but darned if I can find it.

That's about 3/4 mile away.Probably right and the fibre has been blown through. Engineer stated that the cab is on Church Hill which is around 100 mtrs away.

If it is FTTC the fibre stops at the cabinet. It's the old copper from the "new" PCP that brings the VDSL2 to you.

Well I just checked in the old 2011 leaked NGA Documents and it seems that you was down for FTTP as part of "Cornwall - Tranche 2" now where you was down for FTTP, this might of changed since then.

However you still might be part of the FTTP Project and is why its still taking a while, and you might not see any change on the BT Openreach Where and when page, due to FTTP might only use Stages 1 and 8 (8 being ready and live)

We have had all the FTTP hardware all installed since end of 2011 and we are still waiting, we have been told that we are still part of the Commercial FTTP Project and will get done, but these things take time and we are still listed as stage 1.

When i go to Openreach it says trying to find a solution for my postcode and house number yet the houses across the road and next door it says taking orders.Whats that all about, it boils my blood to think rural areas can get it yet parts of Helston cant, Even the Isles of Scilly have it, Openreach gave a solution of clubbing together with other residents to have it installed which to me seems strange when the service is already here, its just BT trying to get more money out of us.

Welcome to my world.
In our case we even have an address that is 4 doors from us which is connected to our fibre hardware (FibreDP and manifold) and they can get fibre, it is very frustrating, even though I have been told by BT/BTOR via phone, emails and letters from them that I will be getting FTTP, just these things take time, over 4 years later still nothing, it just makes me laugh and cry at the same time.

But what I have seen, it seems that FTTP is rolled out as a patchwork quilt, where its all over the place.

I think you should still get it due to its still down as FTTP Planned, but it just might take some time that's all.
It might just be that the chunk of fibres might all be used up and number 7 was lucky enough to get one of the fibres.
So, you might just have to wait for another cable to be installed.

FTTP might also be done blocks of X amount.

Need to know the exchange and cabinet number you are on to even attempt a guess.

The best people to ask will be the Superfast Cornwall team though.

A quick peek seems to show cabs 16, 22 and 82 have missed out so far.

I wouldn't mind so much but I can only get 5mb at the minute it's rubbish and then you get BT sending me stuff asking if I want to get BT TV . Yea right.
Yesterday I decided to see what mobile broadband can offer and was amazed that I can get 29mb down and 24mb up. So if BT don't pull there finger out I will buy a 4g router and pay three £20 a month for unlimited mobile broadband.
