FTTC. cleckheaton

took a trip into town and it looks like it's finally happening, shiny green cabs are poping up all over cleckheaton. they're even doing work at the top of the road down from where i live [virgin media van spotted there the other day] now the worrying bit.... as it's 2 months away from going live. and the works just recent i'm hopefully assuming they have'nt got around to all the cabs yet, do they do them all in one go? assuming this is the cabinet i'm connected to, as it's the one closest to me

also somewhere on these forums i found a thread detailing all postcodes cabs that are planned for fibre install.
could someone point me to it as i've forgotten where it is.

You seem to be pointing at WF158HH.

If so, that is cabinet 27. The cabinet you gave us a picture of looks to me more like Virgin Media. You also reported Virgin Media vans - these will be nothing whatsoever to do with Openreach FTTC.

how did you know it's number? i can't even find out which one i'm connected to. i'm assuming it's my cab because it's the closest one to my street. the virgin media van was parked infront of this green cabinet in the picture on the corner, where there is now an excavation hole. and where in the google map image where the black and white sign post sits there is now a narrow but taller cabinet, on the opposite side you'll
see 2 more cabs, i've seen VM engineers working on these regularly, but wouldn't he park on the right hand
side if this was the case?

did you read the bit about the other cabs? on the right.

If WF158HH is your postcode, which is the line your pointer was at, then the P27 is the phone cabinet number. That's what you need to find. It should be on it.

In your first link this time, the one on the corner by the white signpost is BT. Rotating, the pair near the speed camera, the small one is VM, and I think the big one is as well.

Rotating some more I see one on the opposite corner to the signpost. That looks like another small VM.

VM has lots of small cabinets like that in an area, served from a big one. BT has far fewer in an area.

Have a look at the pics I have on this page. In your second link this time, the small green one is BT phone, the dark green with the V-top I think is Virgin and nothing to do with it.

BT numbers are 1, 2 or 3 digits. Only one 4-digit one known about, on Trafford Park, Manchester. VM cabinet numbers are many digits long wherever I have seen them.

You don't seem to have picked up on what I said about Virgin. They will not be working on the BT FTTC, though they may be installing or upgrading VM Cable. Although BT use sub-contractors for a lot of the work, I'm sure they wouldn't use their biggest direct competitor to install critical systems.

Assuming WF15 8HH is your postcode (as disclosed by that link), then searching the December 2011 BT document for that postcode produces this line --

MYCLE,CLECKHEATON,WF158HH,{MYCLE}{P27},0,100%,,,,

The P27 indicates that your line is connected via PCP number 27.

Interestingly (to me), the null fields that follow the "100%" indicate that, as of last December, the cabinet number 27 was not in any plans to be part of the fibre deployment.

Despite being asked a few times, he hasn't yet confirmed that is his postcode .
