I'm hoping someone can help me understand what's going on with my parents broadband. Their estate seems to be about the only one in Barnsley (01226) without fibre installed, the reason apparently being the whole estate (about 200+ houses) are on direct lines to the exchange, and hence no cabinet.
A petition has even been set up: http://www.change.org/petitions/bt-improve-the-speed...
Are all these homes really on direct lines when they are so far from the exchange? (their current broadband just about manages to connect at 1MB with 79db downstream attenuation). Post code S75 3TL.
Any information much appreciated!

The post code you have provided is not listed... Do you have another for the same development?
Or perhaps download and search the spreadsheet yourself ... link

With Barnsley itself their are quite a few exchange only lines as with any exchange, their is a majority coverage of FTTC for most cabs but their are still a few with no date.
Checking the postcode you provided
SLBY BARNSLEY S753TL {SLBY}{M_D} 1 100%
Which is 100% of the lines in that postcode are exchange only lines, their are 161 postcodes in Barnsley that are exchange only, lines are both short and long for exchange only lines.
If the residents of the 200+ houses raised a certain amount of funding 30-50k then you will proably find BT will take more notice, espeically if a smaller company is bidding for the work.
Otherwise like many who are on EO lines across the country will have to wait to see what BT decide to do about the EO lines both short and long, its quite a problem to solve.

Is it Wooley Edge by any chance?

When the estate was built there was likely not enough capacity available in the closest cabinet so Openreach in these cases would just run a fresh cable straight from the exchange, it happens more than you think, and before FTTC was thought of, it made no difference so BT were never to know it would come back to kick them in the bum.

This is referring to S75 3LY Dodworth, 'Rose hill' and 'Water royd' estate.
I live there myself and am persistently struggling to achieve > 1Mb. usually in the evening it slows to around 0.7Mb
Bt are poor as will be anyone else, due to the nature of the root cause of the problem. This being the quality of the line and the 'direct' nature of the connection to the exchange which is approximately 6.5Km away.
I always feel aggrieved when the Bt Bill comes in. 100 quid a qtr for p*ss poor service and i did not even make a single call on the land line.... I am a big advocate of the Pay for what you get philosophy. 'Up to 20Mb' My aarrrsse. Ill be signing the petition now then.
Regards
Disgruntled of Rose Hill.

SLBY BARNSLEY S753TL {SLBY}{M_D} 1 100% Where do you get that from? (Not that it makes much difference). I see:-
SLBY BARNSLEY S753LY {SLBY}{M_B} 1 80%
SLBY BARNSLEY S753LY {SLBY}{M_D} 1 5%
SLBY BARNSLEY S753LY {SLBY}{P59} 0 15%

S75 3LY has exactly the same figures as S75 3TL.

Came from the first or 2nd part of the spreadsheet oddly the search does not always pick up the postcodes.

Strange. My list of three came from Part 1, and there is nothing in Part 2. Can you repeat it? What spreadsheet program are you using?
