Hi.
I have seen some very helpful people on here that seem to know a bit about the fibre roll out, or know where to look for the information .
Hunslet exchange was listed in the last list as to be activated in 2012. Is there a way of finding out when the exchange is likely to go live? There were rumours of it being February, but as it is now almost the end of March..... If so, would someone also be kind enough to find out cabinet information for LS10 4SU? The number 66 is stencilled on the cabinet outside. I would suspect we are not high priority for the upgrade .
Thank you.

Ah, just seen that more new exchanges have been listed today and Hunslet is now listed as "Coming Soon" on the checker, in September. A few more months to wait yet then.

Well you are right about the cabinet, all lines in your postcode are on 66. However, not surprisingly given the latest announcement, there is no other info in the December spreadsheet sorry.
Best to keep an eye out for markings on the pavements.

Local cabinets are being installed now. The Leeds street works site isn't showing any work to be carried out at our end of the road, athough the cabinet the other end was installed last week.
Can anyone with an updated sheet see if cabinet 66 on the Hunslet exchange (MYHLT) for the LS10 4SU postcode is on the future upgrade list please, as my requests elsewhere are falling on deaf ears?
Thanks
Mark

Only (some?) ISPs have the April 2012 spreadsheet. The leak(er) seems to have been well stopped.
Have you checked your phone number in the BT Wholesale checker?

Yes, I had hoped it was one of those nice friendly ISPs that would be able to check for me . Maybe it's because I continued on my old thread instead of starting a new one..
Tried that checker, Samknows, BT Products & Services and Sky. All tell me I have a rubbish line and I have to "like it or lump it"

Oh well, not worried about it now as we have decided to move and the area we are going to has fibre from Virgin and Openreach providers.

Don't forget Virgin is similar to FTTC, their fibre stops in the street and they use coax cabling.
(also have a read of the virgin forum on here before thinking of signing up - some areas are heavily congested)
James - be* pro - 16.8mbps sync - BQM
FTTC cab arrived 18-jun-2012 (due Mar 2011) - Openreach estimate 44.6Mbps / 6.5Mbps

Not that it matters much to me now, but for fellow cabinet 66'ers, I have heard from BT that the cabinet is due to be enabled in December 2012, but could be subject to indefinite delay!! (So will it or won't it??)
For anyone that is on cabinet 20 at the other end of the road, and was looking forward to fibre (cabinet installation was abandoned in June), there were complaints about the cabinet, hence the work was cancelled. Say thanks to the nimbys

I live on ls104dt, I think this is on cab 20, does this mean we won't be getting fibre? The red markings for the dslam next to it have been recently painted on the ground.

Can someone check LS104DT? Please.

They started digging up the street for the cabinet installation back in June as I was watching them. Next day the holes were filled in and the workmen gone, and no new cabinet. The street works referred to in my previous post show as the installation being abandoned and BT told me it was on hold indefinitely, hence our cabinet also being placed on the potential list for an indefinite delay. Apparently it only takes one complaint for the work to stop, then presumably OR go away and think about what to do next.

This isnt good news, what can we do about this? The location where it was going to be placed was a large wide path in the corner... Infront of hedges next to the existing one...

I got my info from @BTCare on Twitter. Try them and see what they can tell you, they were very helpful.

I was hoping for fibre by September... Ohh hell. Just rememberd to login this time.
|
|
|
Not looking good for September
Have you looked at the site http://www.fibreformiddleton.org.uk/ ? They have opened it up for all of Middleton now and not just the new estate.
|
|
|
Yeah I was surprised to see we have our own campaign, given the general demographics of the area.
All good stuff, I have to say
|
|
|
|
Their are quite a few errors in the information on the site, would best to change them as to not confuse people.
|
|
|
That would be down to the person running the site I guess. I don't know what is inaccurate on there, so wouldn't know where to start. It's handy to have something local to keep an eye on though.
|
|
|
Ccxo.
Can I ask what is wrong as I run the site so I can update.
I'm no IT whizz but I know I would like fibre and if I don't do it no one else will.
But willing to take any feedback on board.

I would not class it as similar. THe copper BT twisted pais has very poor bansdwidth and is very subcect to noise. Coaxial cable that is feeding only one property has more than enough bandwith to meet any possible needs at least for the next 10 years. Coaxial also has much better noise immunity

And the bandwidth limits of DOCSIS 2 and DOCSIS 3 that Virgin Media are constantly fighting with causing local congestion issues rather than at the data centre (viz, three student houses in a coax segment all on 100mbps service can essentially kill the service for everyone else).

You've forgotten its shared around as many as 500 homes per coax segment. If it was point to point then coax would be vastly better. The DSL services are point to point (home to exchange) before the sharing really goes on.

Twenty years ago, Ethernet came at 10Mbps in 2 flavours - one on twisted pair, and one on coax.
Nowadays we see ethernet at gigabit speeds on twisted pair only, and the coax variant has died a death.
While I agree with you that Coax does indeed have better noise immunity, there must be something else in the equation that means twisted pair has won *that* race.

Good news, I drove past cab 20, and the fttc cab has been installed, looks like they were putting the power supply in yesterday. Whats the capacity of these things, how many connections can they have?
|
|
|
The big cabs are 288 connections with multiple GigE backhaul links to the handover node
If the smaller cab it is 128 connections.

Ah right okay, anyway we are on o2 at the mo, paying about 20 quid a month for 3meg.
Is there any other ISP that does fttc, that has unlimited usage for about 20-30 per month?

I'm sure there is also a 256 connection version of the smaller ECI cabinet.

While I agree with you that Coax does indeed have better noise immunity, there must be something else in the equation that means twisted pair has won *that* race.
The two main reasons are:
1. Twisted pair ethernet cable is considerably cheaper than RG58 coax that is used with thin-wire ethernet.
2. Coax cable is only good up to about 350Mbps.

Hi there
Can someone advise me if LS10 3BS is showing up as when we will get upgraded. Currently with Sky and get about 5mb but sky have just recently put prices up so thinking of moving to orange as can get out of the contract.
Used an old netgear router with cracked firmware so could adjust the SNR level, managed to get about 6mb/s perfectly but overnight the connection slowed back to the sync speed that the Sagem always synced at.
Wondering when will get fibre in my area.

Can't help you with your cabinet, but the exchange has been put back to December now. I emailed OpenReach for a definitive answer on ours, which has gone from December 2012 to December 2013 now
Hope you get the answer you're looking for.

Hunslet exchange now accepting orders, for those lucky enough to have cabinets!!

Hi,
I live in the same area, supplied by either cabinet P19 or P20. The availability checker say's FTTC is not available.
There's a new green box next to P20 so I assume this cab has been upgraded. P19 does not appear to have been upgraded yet and is not listed as having a delivery phase according to http://www.coolwebhome.co.uk/fibre/checker.php which I understand is using data from over 12 months ago.
I've emailed Openreach and got an out of office reply.
Does anyone have any up-to date information on either of these cabs? I'd hate to be stuck on 2 megs forever...
Or can anyone confirm that they have working FTTC on cab P20? Which would point to me being served by P19 and in for a long wait!
Thank you,
Andy.

Andy,
Cab 20 is live:
For Address STREET SIDE DSLAM CAB NMBQUZ, ACRE ROAD, LEEDS, LS10 4EW on Exchange HUNSLET
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 80 Mbps and upstream line speed of 20 Mbps.
However I also have good news - cabinet 19 is being upgraded as part of the infill programme and should be ready by March 2013, although the availability checker hasn't been updated yet.
STREET SIDE DSLAM CAB NAAQTF, MIDDLETON PARK AVENUE, LEEDS, LS10 4HY
This is phase 10b, so don't worry, coming soon!

Thanks Ignitionnet,
So there is hope! I thought as cab 19 is on a main street it would have been easy to upgrade and done sooner rather than later? I wonder how they pick the upgrade order?
Many thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy,
I'm actually Carl from the Fibre For Middleton campaign, you may have mailed us at some point!
They did the easiest / most profitable ones first, then the criteria changed to allow the not so low hanging fruit to be done.
The area I've been campaigning for had just one cabinet out of 9 done in the first wave, there are another 3 scheduled for this March 2013 infill.

Unlucky. My cab, 19 has been upgraded but no sign of the second fibre cabinet. Have to see what March brings.
Oddly, this checker (based on address):
http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/pls/adsl/ADSLChecker.Ad...
Reports FTTC is now available, whilst the number checker does not.
https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html
I know which I believe.

Happy days!
Fibre cabinet for cab 19 installed outside 77 Throstle Lane (very, very close to their wall, not sure they're so happy..) and according to http://outsizefiles.leeds.gov.uk/streetworks/SymSWRD... it might get power on the 11th of Feb.
Going from 2.5meg to ~ 80 would be awesome.

Hi there
Please could someone assist. LS10 3BS is apparently served by cabinet P34. This is the Parnaby Road area we get about 3/5mb if we are lucky at the moment. Last year BT said they were not planning on investing/upgrading our area and Virgin have no plans to invest in cable for us.
The http://www.coolwebhome.co.uk/fibre/checker.php website says that FTTC, but not yet available.
We are starting to feel that the only way we will get an increase and fibre is through the http://www.superfastwestyorkshire.co.uk/ scheme.
Can anyone look into this for me not sure where to go really. When I check the bt wholesale website it says they are taking orders on my exchange? Confused much.
Kind Regards
Richard.
