Big FTTC Cabinet vs Smaller FTTC Cabinet deployment?

[link to this post]

Recently I have seen FTTC cabinets popping up in my town Bridgwater (WWBWAT), and I couldn't help but notice that all of the cabinets I have seen so far are the smaller 128 line cabinets - I have not seen even one.

In some places of the town, they have 2 old cabinets within 100 Meters of each other, and they have deployed two smaller FTTC cabinets to serve each one, instead of one big one to serve both.

My question is: Why have BT only deployed the smaller cabinets? Have they acknowledged that the larger cabinets are too big for the pavement?

Space on the pathway is not usualy a issue as the FTTC cabs can be located up to 100 meters away from the exisiting pcp.
While the smaller FTTC cab has been deployed it is what OR is expecting to be in take up, if demand exceeds this then either they will replace or install a larger cabinet. (Ive seen an exisitng pcp, a small fttc and a larger fttc all together)

As for two existing PCP's sharing a single large cabinet, it could possibly happen but is unlikely due to the above reason of demand increasing.

Are you local to west berkshire? As it could be quite a journey i can link the google street view but it only shows the existing old pcp.

Can take a photo of the 3 cabinets tomorrow during the day.

The mistake you are making is assuming the smaller cabinets are only 128 port. wink

On what basis do you say the assumption is wrong? If it is right, then the poster has not made a mistake.

At least you have a new cabinet!! I have been told that there are no suitable places at all near my existing cabinet and as such it will never be upgraded!
So I'm stuck with no chance of fibre due to the fact that 100 years ago they made roads with narrow pavements! Flippin' BT are living 100 years in the past as well!

Huawei have a 288 large cab and a 96 line small cab
ECI have a large 256 and a small 128.
What they install is down to the expected demand in the area, usually, or available space in the old copper cab.

I think you will fiond the small Huawei is 128 connections just like the ECI. I wasn't aware of an ECI 256 but it sounds likely there is one. Do you have a photo by any chance?

The whole thread died 12 months ago by the way. I'm unsure why the previous poster resurrected it smile.

Uh?

Where does that come from? If there isn't space for the interconnects the old cab gets re-skinned.

There's a cab near me in a conservation area that was listed on the planning application as an ECI 256 DSLAM but what's been installed is an ECI 128 cab. Maybe the 128 and 256 use the same cabinet.

If you Google "Openreach ECI 256" it comes quite a few planning applications mentioning the ECI 256 DSLAM

ECI uses the same cabinet shell for either 128 or 256 line DSLAM.

Assuming its not already been reshelled.

And the small Huawei cabs are 96 lines. Its not called the Huawei 96 for nothing.
