BT ADSL to BT Infinity

Just a quick question. Friend has placed an order for BT Infinity and is currently on BT Total Broadband. The engineer is coming on Thursday 29th to install it.When will the ADSL be cancelled? Before the 29th, on the 29th or after? Thanks.

It happens over the space of maybe an hour.

Engineer phones to say you lose service, he fiddles in the cab, he comes along fits the VDSL2 modem, runs some tests (shows you the JDSU stats if you want), connects the Hub3, asks you to test your connection. Bob's your uncle!

So as one service is ended, the other is activated.

You don't actually lose it as such .........

There is a DSL filter on the incoming port of the VDSL DSLAM cabinet. This effectively removes the DSL from your line. This only comes in to play when the installing engineer connects your line through the DSLAM ties in the street cabinet.

The original DSL signal will continue to come from the exchange, along with your dial tone, until such time as the cease for your SMPF ties comes through, and exchange staff disconnect them.

That's fine as long as he doesn't receive a bill for both when it would be impossible to use the ADSL =) Thanks for the interesting info.

He will have paid for the ADSL in advance. A bill for Infinity VDSL will arrive covering the install date through to the end of month plus the next month or three months charges. Also on that bill will be a credit for any unused ADSL service. The day of the changeover, from memory, is charged as a VDSL day.
