You don't actually lose it as such .........
There is a DSL filter on the incoming port of the VDSL DSLAM cabinet. This effectively removes the DSL from your line. This only comes in to play when the installing engineer connects your line through the DSLAM ties in the street cabinet.
The original DSL signal will continue to come from the exchange, along with your dial tone, until such time as the cease for your SMPF ties comes through, and exchange staff disconnect them.
