Hi
I just had FTTC installed today and want to find out how I go about interogating the vdsl modem for information on sync rates etc...
Many thanks.

I think you have to flash the firmware http://huaweihg612hacking.wordpress.com/

How about this, just now. Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 2 Mbps We were unable to identify any performance problem with your service at this time.
It's done that before. Occasionally takes several seconds after finishing the download before starting the upload, but is time-counting from the end of the download. Superb programming.

I find the BT speed tester useless now apart from the IP profile, it gives wildly varying results.

It's usually fine for me, wired. Wireless is poor of course.

I find it to be rubbish even on a wired connection.
Ii could be due to being on an 80/20 connection I suppose, I don't remember it being so bad on 40/10. Strangely, the tbb tester is quite reliable at 80/20, I could never rely on it at 40/10

ps
As an example, I've just had a power problem (a UPS isn't much use when you knock the power jack out of the modem )
After re-sync'ing, the BT speedtest gave me a download speed of 270Kbps (yes, I have got the units right) on a 69.34Mbps profile, speedtest.net immediately afterwards gave this.
'Nuff said.

As said if you have a Huawei you can hack the firmware, however if you've got an ECI like me your not going to get any stats. Work in progress by clever fellows in trying to access these, see kitz forum for updates.

That's similar to what I often get from the BT tester, although the Beta (above 24Mb) tester seems to work reasonably well.

although the Beta (above 24Mb) tester seems to work reasonably well. Agreed- I haven't used that before but it's just given me 67.25Mbps, which I'm not complaining about
But it doesn't do an upload test and (more important from my pov) nor does it give the profile figure.

I find the thinkbroadband speed tester far more reliable (consistent).
For your profile, you should be able to get the information here: http://windows.mouselike.org/be/index.asp?DoAction=B...

Thanks for that link, the BT speedtester reports my profile OK but that one is easier and (I assume?) not subject to the 1 per hour limitation... bookmarked
I found the tbb tester to be consistent as well, but it was consistently wrong
I use a Mac, which has a little monitor showing network traffic. On several occasions I ran three consecutive tests- speedtest.net, tbb and BT. All three showed a nice flat-topped curve so no peak/average problems, but the tbb one was consistently only about 60-70% of the height of the other two.
I can only think it was peering or routing oddities, but I never got to the bottom of it and it appears to have gone away when I went to the 80/20 connection

BT have changed their systems, this tool now has to actively submit information to BT to read the BRAS details.
This may cause problems if your internet provider needs to use BT Speed Tester results for diagnostics and fault reporting in the near future. If in doubt, do NOT run this tool.
Running this tool will also prevent you from running the BT Java based speed tester for a few hours.

Not only do you get the warning message Batboy shows, but it is inaccurate... tells me my line is 21cn, it ain't............
|

I am getting very confused with all the different responses from speed testers. I carried out 3 tests within a couple of mins of each other all on different testers. Results were:
BT Speedtester Beta: 74.98Mbps
Speedtester.net: 22.76Mbps
TBB Speed Test: 29.8Mbps
I am on a 80Mbps connection and according to the modem, I am connected at the full 80Mbps.
|
|
and (I assume?) not subject to the 1 per hour limitation... bookmarked Wrong assumption! The Service ID is: BBEU03522XXX
This is a 21CN line.
Looks like BT refused to test, possibly because a speed test or BRAS check has been run recently which prevents this tool from working. Try again in a few hours. Tho' I don't remember using the BT speedtester since yesterday at latest.

Does your exchange have 21cn? I would expect so. If you are still on the "up to 8mbps" (limited) product it's still very likely that you are connected to 21cn kit now but with the older ADSL1(ADSLMax) settings applied to the line.
