Our exchange (Maidenhead) has been FTTC enabled for ages - but we can't get the service in our rural location. I noticed last week a load of digging going on around our existing old cabinet and now there's a little green fella sitting in front of it. Looks a lot smaller than the FTTC cabinets I’ve seen elsewhere, so could this just be a replacement to the old one (it's still there) or am I right to start getting excited?
Here's the old one:

The new one is sitting on the grass this side of the pavement.

Replacement maybe.
Does new cabinet have ventilation grills? If there are non- then replacement cabinet is most likely.

I'll try to remember to have a look on Saturday morning when I drive that way!
You need to get the local Landlord (of the Royal Oak) onto the case - he must have a few contacts.

There are a couple of small FFTC cab pics on this page. The two "128"s.

Now there's a surprise - it looks like the virgin media one on the right:

Can't believe they'd be interested in cabling up this area - houses all to spaced out and they'd have to dig up a lot of road!

Him, plus the residents of White Waltham that purchased the land from the farm at the top of Paley Street - they could pay for a cabinet out of their loose change!

So, were you happy when the Saturday morning noise moved from there down to opposite the Royal Oak?

It has grills - bottom left - hopes are back up there

Need a photo really. that is a Cabinet Cross Connection 2. With new doors as the old ones have probably fallen off on some poor engineer's foot some time ago.
|
|
The cabinet and it does have a 240v warning label attached so is probably powered or intended to be.

Certainly looks like FTTC cabinet to me... I can't see any other reason for installing one there. Hard to determine the size from foto, but it does look very similar to a BT FTTC cab that I'd be connected to if I chose to make the switch. That also has a big warning 240v sticker on it. So it looks like a winner.

It's a Huawei 128 - identical to the one installed near me: Linky

MHC has found the FTTC cabinet, but the picture the OP linked to on my site definitely isn't that one.

I'll confirm it is definitely the one the OP was referring to. Use the original http://goo.gl/rY0yd for a location and then use the co-ordinates from my image and they are very close! The fence behind (in my image) is fairly new - and http://g.co/maps/5kvb8 shows the same trees!
A friend mentioned that OR had been in the area recently and is hoping that he may get something faster than dial-up!

I wasn't doubting you. But the OP needs an eye test in that case .

Just asked the Openreach guy sat in a van by it eating his lunch. It's Fibre. 2 - 3 months for activation he thought.
RESULT!
|
|
Yup - I do... in fairness when i first posted it was from memory and the thing was obscured by various Health & Safety barriers. Had intended on replacing my observation with a photo, but the one I got on Friday "missed".
