A friend of mine is connected to the EMGRETO exchange, cabinet P2. The December spreadsheet said his cabinet is not targeted for fibre and the BT Wholesale checker doesn't mention fibre for his line. Is there a newer spreadsheet that someone could check please?
|
|
|
There is an April spreadsheet that has not been leaked, but the BT Wholesale checker for his number will be reflecting what is in it.

Thanks for that, it doesn't look good then. The existing cabinet looks very small so probably not worthy of upgrade

This is one case where size really doesn't matter. It's how it's used that is important.
Look at the first one on this page. That's ours.

That looks quite large in comparison! This is his:

It looks a bit of a fibre-like cab but it's definitely not, the picture is a Google street view picture from March 2009 long before they started enabling the exchange.

I'm not so sure that is a BT cabinet, we have a few dotted around like that and they don't match up with PCP's.
Also the wholesale checker does not always tell you if you are destined for fibre, most of our cabinets don't give any info yet, and thats with the FTTC twins having been installed for months.
It could be this one, but no numbers on it, but it only serves 7 postcodes
Postcode Percent Lines
NN189BQ 20%
NN180QW 53%
NN189BH 60%
NN189BP 100%
NN189BW 100%
NN189BB 100%

Third one down, left hand column, same page.

I'm not so surethat is a BT cabinet,
Yep, that is a normal BT cab, just a smaller version, usually to cover a new build estate or small amount of lines.
|
|
|
So what about these three:
http://goo.gl/maps/ykr1
http://goo.gl/maps/ZuhE
http://goo.gl/maps/NLDR
Looking at them just now I think they are actually CCTV cabinets, the first and third you can actually follow the cables to the cameras, also whilst I'm missing a few cabinets from my map with very few lines connected the ones above are not in the correct area's.
Now if you look at the one the OP posted, there is a CCTV camera right next to it.
RobertoS is that a CCTV camera next to your picture?
|
|
|
Those 3 are all BT cabinets as like the OP. The first has an old manhole at the front of it, probably PO. The second you can see has a standard BT 3 manhole setup in front of it and the last one also has an old PO manhole at the front of it.
If the cameras do go back to the cab, its just for a feed to the outside world it requires. The cabinet will not be for the sole purpose of the camera
If the small cabs do not have their own PCP number, then they will simply be secondary connection points (SCP's) rather than primary connection points (PCP's) but the lines from the SCP still go back to the PCP. Think of a SCP just as a junction box.
I'm not conceding that its odd the cabs are close to the CCTV's however, that's probably a coincidence
4, 14, 23, 33, 34, 35, 50, 51, 55 in Ramsgate are currently live and RFS.
Thanks

The 3rd one almost definitely is a CCTV cab. They are often black. Can't tell if the others are.
|
|
|

So is it fair to say that small cabinets like those are often passed over as not viable, and unlikely to get FTTC in the near future?

Not necessarily, not sure what it's like round by you but in Aberdeen ALL street furniture in the city centre has to be black.
All street light poles, traffic lights, pedestrian fences, PCP and FTTC cabs, Speed limit and general traffic sign poles.
Anyone who knows aberdeen may notice that the traffic light poles are all black at one end of market street but as you get closer to Torry they go back to grey.
So that cab in picture 3 could well be a BT PCP/SCP but the local council has made them paint it black
Getting about 15mb down and 900k up on Sky DSL, not bad when it's free! Can't wait for FTTC (30-6-12)
Disclaimer: I work for sky, but have no involvement AT ALL with broadband, so dont ask!

Thanks
That makes sense being SCP's.
Thanks for the heads up on the cabinets, had already got all of them except 35, which I had to try three different postcodes/addresses before it gave me a live indication.
7 CORNHILL, RAMSGATE, CT11 9SN = no FFTC can't remember what the other one was that I tried.
Typical, wonder how many other addresses I've chosen won't work.

We got a few of them around here but they are not BT cabs, as i have seem virgin media engineers working on them
http://goo.gl/maps/ykr1
http://goo.gl/maps/ZuhE
http://goo.gl/maps/NLDR
All 3 are not BT cabs Virgin Media (Cable) maybe or some other 3rd party ,

Certainly not Virgin cabs, they never got this far south east.
|
|
|

They are BT cabs, only BT use that street furniture.

All 3 are 100% CCTV Cabinets

All 3 are 100% CCTV Cabinets There must be an awful lot of cameras running off them then, with a huge number of buried cables, that mysteriously seem not to have needed road works.
Evidence for them being CCTV please. Plus the planning permission for the cabinets and invisible cameras.

Can't help with that although there are cameras visible in streetview. Think the cabs must have been there for some years. You'll just have to take ny word for it Even got the Y codes for those that know what they are

The CCTV system was installed many years ago in Ramsgate, and other local towns, and there are a lot of camera's as well, can't remember when though. Got to be at least ten years ago.

Circa 1998/1999. Some of the Kent schemes are very old. I know that Deal has an old copper based system.

Hmmmm .
What I can't see on any of the three from the angles shown is the distinctive handle that the OR small PCPs have on the right-hand side.
