Hi, I hope someone can help as im a little confused...

FTTC is available along my street and most of our local area but for some reason it's not available to me as I live in a block of flats. I asked BT why this is and they say it's down to planning permission from my landlord crazy

Your block has a cabinet in the basement perhaps?

Maybe they confused it with fttp very easily done.

What does the BT Wholesale checker say for your line, and the telephone number for the property closest to your flats.

Also do any exchange only lines show up when you check postcode at http://www.coolwebhome.co.uk/fibre/checker.php

If flats were added to the area some years after the phone wiring appeared, you may have exchange only lines.

So what does the checker actually say, the phoneline may head towards the cebinet, but it might just pass straight under it and all the way back to the exchange.

That says that all the phone lines on that postcode are scheduled for FTTP. Are you sure the others on the street are FTTC, not FTTP?

FTTP is not currently being installed at multi-occupancy buildings, even if the area in general is getting it. Not good news I'm afraid frown.

Flats are something they are working on doing though, but the original BT person was right, in that if the landlord says no there is very little BT can do.

Because that postcode isn't getting FTTC. As I asked, are you sure about what you said at the start?

They aren't going to install a cabinet just for your block of flats to get FTTC when the rest of the area is getting FTTP unless it's a pretty big block.

You are confusing things. Your telephone is connect to the cabinet via copper. For FTTC installations, a second cab is installed near the PCP (telephone). Fibre is then run to the new cab, which is linked to the old cab, and your telephone line.

FTTP is fibre to the premises, so no secondary cab. With blocks of flats where FTTP is available, BT need permission from the owner of the building to install kit inside to proved the building with FTTP.

There is no option of FTTC & FTTP at the moment.

If it were me, I would talk to the other residents, attempt to get the majority to back you and then petition the landlord to allow BT to install FTTP into the building. Of course the you then need to convince BT to do it.

You mean there is a new cable going up the pole and a new box near the top? If so, that is FTTP.

For FTTC a new cabinet appears near the PCP (phone cabinet), and that's all you see. Nothing else appears, apart from any road works to connect the cabinet(s).

Well I contacted my landlord/housing association and supplied them this link a few days ago;

http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/landlord/

I today got a reply from my landlords technical services and they say that they have been in talks with BT and they are at the next stage, survey.

What happens now and how long does the process take?

My landlords reply is below;

Just a quick note to let you know that our Technical Services Team has come back to me re your enquiry below and it all looks like good news for a nice change.

We are in the processes at the moment of working with BT regarding the promotion you have also highlighted and currently all of our blocks of flats or areas that would qualify for the scheme are being surveyed. Once we have received the surveys back and any costs have been identified and agreed then BT/DCHG will look to get installations done asap. Then the residents of the appropriate schemes will then be able to contact a supplier of their choice and get connected.

Fingers crossed this is good news,  and hopefully we will be able to get things installed and everyone up and running in the non to distant future.

I'm glad that MrS provided the link and additional information of which I forwarded on to my landlord, if I didn't have the info then nothing would be happening...

So, good all around and hopefully it won't take long smile
