[link to this post]

I am trying to find out which BT Cabinet my line is connected to.

I am on the Sittingbourne Exchange which has been FTTC Enabled.

My post code is ME10 5JG.

Cabinet 76.

According to the Dec 2011 data that is in phase 9a, which I expect means starting work soon. Phases 4a and 6a were earlier ones, which is why it says the exchange is enabled.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk
My domains, website and mail hosting - Tsohost. Internet connection - Plusnet Value Fibre FTTC 80/20 trial.

Looks like you will be live at end sep 2012 latest and can possible order the service now. Well thats how I read it. I am in the same state, looking to order at the end of aug..

----
{from bt wholesale checker}
For Postcode ME10 5JG

Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 30th September 2012. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 64 Mbps and upstream line speed of 20 Mbps.

The actual stable line speed supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This speed may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.

Furthermore your exchange is due to be enabled for multicast services on fibre lines by 30th September 2012, please contact your provider for further details.

Just to note, although planned it may never happen. Cab 76 doesn't seem to have a nice area next to it for an FTTC Cab(No planning problems just no site location).
I have been chasing this for five years now and already gone down the Ian Livingstone route, as to why we haven't got it when all other areas have, and to be honest they didn't have an answer. Anyway they went to OpenReach and they came back with an ETA of December2012 assuming they have enough take up. IE people asking for the service by registering on the infinity site?! I will soon be flyering the 500 homes attached to it asking people to register as I and my neighbours are struggling on 1mb.
As the Cab isn't currently in on Sonora I would wait and see but dont hold your breath!

The September is just a place holder like it was in June

The fibre cab doesn't necessarily have to go next to the PCP. There's one not too far from me where the PCP is right on the edge of a main road and the fibre cab is about 60 metres down a side road.

Fair Point. there is an Electrical Sub 50mtrs away and it could go near that but...
Lap of the Gods really. I am a bit bored with BT now after campaigning for five years and they can't really tell you anything. It seems down in Kent a lot of the 9A-9B seems to be mop up if they can or want to do it, and thus slippage is still an option if they have more Important areas to deal with.

Anyway like I said I would love to be proved wrong by Xmas and have around 20Mb connection. What annoys me is I have Cab 54FTTC that has been in Two years less then 40mtrs away from me... Arrrgggghhh! smile

FTTC has not been out for 5 years, hoping this was a type and you meant months, or do you really believe fttc has been out for 5 years!

No mate seriously 5 years, I had the heads up from the people in the know, originally and it was all about campainging to make them aware of our town and our needs. To be part of the Initial trials etc.,
I understand that not everyone can get on them and carried on campainging when it went thru its various stages of evolution.
3.5 years ago there was a glimmer of light of rollout plans that Incorporated the town.
2.5 years ago a cabinet turned up about 40/50mtrs from me. I thought Weyhey, but alas it wasn't for me as I am on one which is 250mtrs away.
2 years ago that went live. frown Since then I have spoken to BT to ascertain a rough date for our cabinet since 95% of the town and the surrounding area have gone live.
By the way this isn't just for me, I have been campainging for the 500 people off of our cabinet, friends, neighbours etc.,
I know all the politics around the rollout and competition and the sheer size of it etc.,
Its the fact that if they gave you a date and then it had slippage of upto a year then it was Installed that would be OK. But when they keep moving dates and you have been told by the sales people on BT that It'll be coming soon and you just have to keep checking the checker until it becomes available. but an estimate is less than 6months(3.5 yrs ago). Its the non and disInformation that is passed over because the sales team don't know anything.

I like to goto a shop and make a decision and buy something. If I have to wait a year for the latest thing such as a new games console then in a years time it becomes available I buy it.

I think what I'm trying to say is expectation and being reasonable.

Like I said according to BT if they dont get enough people sign up they may not roll out the cab. I sent a signed list of about 300 people several years ago in regards to this. But thats not their online form!

I asked why the other cab near me was Installed, and was told it was down to the amount of people that had gone online and signed up, which I found astounding because 90% of that part of the estate was a building site at the time, being new builds.

SORRY: Amendment its actually been just over 4.5 years so not quite five yet.

Anyway ramble over,
Thanks for listening.

It seems Kent County Council are more liberal with their description of what's going on. East Sussex County Council roadworks.org entries just say:

Amherst Road, Hastings, East Sussex
Works Start: 20 Aug
End: 22 Aug

Medium impact, delays possible
Location: O/S 3 AMHERST ROAD
Current status: Planned work about to start
Traffic lights, etc: None/signing only
Queries should be addressed to BT quoting reference BC005WP00100500085940000
Work info last modified 14:15 on 15/08/2012
Last updated on roadworks.org 15:39 on 20/08/2012
Data source East Sussex County Council

i.e. the description field is always missing. ESCC's own website doesn't supply additional information, either.

Oliver.

Well, Gobsmacked. But someone must have been Listening.
I did receive this from O/R on the 16th but have been away the weekend.

I did get a generic reply but hopefully it helped!
Anyway, lets just crossed fingers and hope the O/R guys do good.

Just realised Tony is from N.I.C.E.... Network Investment Customer Engagement.

Thanks
Jason

Tony,
Thanks for your swift reply.

I understand that its part of Phase 9a and I can get that Information freely availabe on the web, but I am sure that you can understand all the problems and time span that we have gone thru for the developement that we currently live on.
What I am worried about is the fact that this may not happen if you think people may not want it!

When you say completion in Phase 9a, What is the estimated time for Phase 9a to be completed by? you say scheduled does this mean actually Cab in and working by December? or is Phase 9a schedule spanning now until June2014?

I know your trying to be helpful but please try not to be uneconomical with the truth. Realistic time scales please.
I know somewhere you have a planning department that has to pay contracters to come and fit the box and subsequent works, that doesn't just come out of a hat, like the world cup draw smile

Thanks in Advance
Jason

Dear Jason

Thank you for your enquiry into fibre broadband at cab 76 in Sittingbourne.

Whilst I cannot comment on conversations held previously, I can give you details of progress.

The roll-out of broadband isnt necessarily done in one phase within an exchange area, this is the situation in Sittingbourne.

Your cab is due for completion as part of Phase 9a, which is scheduled for the end of December this year.

Just an update on Cab 76 Sitt.

Roadworks have been cleared away and we have an FTTC shell!
Really happy after all this time.

Any idea as to the expected time to get Power, Patch and Fibre in and to take orders?
I am guessing 2-3months all being well!?

I spoke to one of the engineers who was installing the cabinet and he said it would be live by the time they left (24th Aug) he did however say it can take a long time for BT's wholesale database to be updated to reflect this and that we won't be able to place any orders until that is done.

I just checked my postcode (ME105JE) and it says :

"Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 30th September 2012"

It CAN take a long time for that database to be updated after Openreach have finished playing, but a few days is much more like the norm. Keep using the checker, but do input your phone number and not your postcode - unless you don't have a BT phone line of course !

BT Infinity is driving me up the wall. I is sooo frustrating that they keep on putting it back, 3 months at a time. The exchange (Purley) is enabled for 80mbps, but my local cabinet obviously isn't. (How do I find out what the cabinet number is btw? and who can I chase..)
I hate to say it but the current date on the BT site is September 30 2012. Any bets?

Just be happy that you will get it at some pint in the very near future.
My cab has now been set for mid November maybe December and possibly January or February. but am not worried.
I know i will get it soon and that's all that matters, think about the poor sods that dont even have a date.
Just chill out and go hunt for cabs in your area and keep an eye on them for a new friend growing out the ground next to it

Stick your postcode into this:

http://fttc-check.alc.im/

The first column should have a number like P15 for example, that means you are on cabinet 15.

If more than one cab is listed then look at the percentages a few columns along to see which you are most likely to be on. If you do get two cabs and one gets fibre and the other doesn't then you'll really want to cross your fingers and hope you get the one that does.

Cab76 Sitt update.

Spoke to a very nice ex colleague who was running the link cables and terminating them into the Fibre Cab.
He said Power is in. His work should be finished this evening if not tomorrow.
Then they will have to run the fibre in. He estimates 2 weeks for that.

But then they do testing which could last 2-4 weeks before orders being taken!

So maybe 6-8 weeks

In another part of Kent, got a letter from BT, apparently fibre is now available.
But as I am half a mile outside the village, I rather doubt it.
Apparently the only way to find out is to place an order, ha, ha, ha.

Anyway, they are too late, I coudln't get more the 1.2 Mb/s, so I gave up the landline and use
mobile G3 connection. It's not great, but it works OK most of the time.

And it's cheaper the BT's fibre, no ever rising line rental !

So, it's NO thanks to BT, but thanks for the dividends which pay for my MBB smile

Martin

Just checked and it does not seem to be showing on roadworks.org anymore, what I find most upsetting was that I was told it was all up and ready to go at least three weeks ago. It's worrying we both got told it had power when it seems that is not the case.

I guess we are getting closer, bit by bit smile

Search under Sonora Way, Sittingbourne, Kent ME10, UK
Perhaps you haven't got the "Planned Works" ticked on the map layer. Its not on by default.
The Power Networks one is still there. So after they do that they have to run the fibre??? and do the testing.
Its like the old Adage, Christmas is getting closer. It may well be then!

Ahh yes, I had not ticked planned works, thanks for that. I'm still holding out hope for the end of this month as it says on the BT wholesale checker, but if the power is only just going in maybe it will slip back another month or so yet.

WooHoo!!!

OK spoke with BT a few weeks back and we are at the stage with all Installed at Cab76 Sonora. Just testing.
The O/R guys said that it would be the end of November before we could probably order.

Today I checked the BT Fibre checker and got the following results:-

BT Total Broadband
This is generally within 1-2 Mb higher or lower than your estimated speed quoted. Between 1.5Mb and 5.5Mb
(Estimated speed: 3.0Mb) Now

BT Infinity
We're rolling out our fibre optic network to bring you faster speeds of up to 76Mb. Register your interest now and we'll contact you near to the date stated. These dates are provisional and subject to change.
49.5Mb download
10.9Mb upload 31-December-2012 Register Interest

This is the first time it has ever shown a possible Fibre connection in 5 Years!!!
