Cabinet Live, but checker says fibre unavailable

The FTTC cabinet in my area has gone live in the last few weeks and properties close to it can get Infinity but my property is 1.4 miles from the cabinet and is still saying that Infinity is unavailable. Any ideas why?
Using the postcode checker, it seems to be available up to about a mile from the cabinet and then stops. My postcode is CT5 3AY which is a Whitstable postcode but I'm actually on the Canterbury exchange which is about 7 miles away and gives me standard broadband of about half a meg which is completely useless.
I've been holding on for FTTC hoping this was going to be the thing that would finally bring us a reasonable speed and I'm hoping we're not going to be left out in the cold again.

Infinity is not available if the estimate you get from this checker is under 15Mbps. Use your phone number, as the postcode shows nothing to do with FTTC.

FTTC is available from several suppliers if the estimate is 5Mbps or higher. In fact I think there may be a couple that go as low as 2Mbps estimate.

As the actual speed is usually higher than the estimate it's worth following up.

What does the BT Wholesale checker say when you enter your telephone number?

It's probable that you are too far from the cabinet to receive BT Infinity, which has a self imposed minimum sync requirement of 15Mb.

Several other providers - including BT - offer FTTC services that don't have this requirement though.
If the BTW checker says you can have FTTC (albeit at a low bandwidth), place an order with an ISP who doesn't have this artificial threshold.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately I can't use my phone number as I'm with Sky and the checker on Sky's website says I can't even get Sky Broadband or Talk with them which is strange as I already have both.
It seems crazy that BT won't take me on as an Infinity customer because they can't give me 15Mbps or more on a 1.5 mile connection but they'd be happy to leave me on a less than half meg 7.5 mile connection.
Any idea who the suppliers are that will provide slower connections? I'd prefer to stay with Sky as they have a truly unlimited connection but would look at changing to get a decent speed.

BT, Plusnet, Zen, Asdl 24 and theirs a few others as well.

BT will take you. Just infinity has to be above 15Mbps as mentioned

They offer service that's still using the new fibre cabinet... it's just called something else & will get you below 15Mbps. It's basically infinity but for sub 15Mbps.

I think it's called Faster total broadband the BT service.

Still uses fibre cabinet but will be below 15Mbps

Also sky do fibre service nowadays. Give them a call and see what they can do. Not sure if they'd cater for you.

So are you SURE that you are served by the CAB that you say has been enabled?

According to the spreadsheet your post code is served by PCP 46 on the Canterbury exchange.

Have you checked the number on the PCP that you believe is yours?

Are these the post codes that you belive are enabled?

The uplift is given as 282 for this PCP (so they expect 282 times current ASDL speeds to be available).

Do you know the telephone number of anyone in the post codes above (including shops etc)? Put that in the BT Wholesale checker and see what it says.

It could be a data error in the database but you need to ensure that you are looking at the right PCP first.
