Aberdeen Kincorth exchange

Hello,

I'm on the Aberdeen Kincorth exchange (NSKNC) and have been suffering from ~1.5Mb connections for years based on the cable length from exchange to house.

BT have announced the exchange is to be FTTC enabled and currently show the end of September 2012 as the go live date - tantalizingly close

I won't be surprised if it slips We see lots of BT vans in the area at the moment, but no sign of any new cabinets being installed or civil engineering works to prepare for them.

A leaked BT spreadsheet from late 2011 shows the following for my post code:

I take the above as being good news - ie that we will be able to get FTTC when available.

I assume that this means I am on cabinet P45 for this exchange.

Does anyone know what the "deployed Yes" means?

Deployed: Yes almost sounds like your cab is live.

You put your post code or number into the BT Wholesale checker?

I recall Deployed =yes means its in the rollout plan, nothing else

The BT Wholesale checker says "Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 30th September 2012."

How accurate are these dates? Can I reasonably expect it be up and working by then or should I be expecting a change in date?

I have the same date as you on the Kilmarnock exchange and i asked an engineer working in my street if he thinks it will be on time. His response was it will be rdy when its rdy and just be happy they are installing it.
He was not being rude he was just being honest

Its worth keeping an eye on the local planning website for cabinet applications from Openreach.

Click on advanced search then in proposal description search for DSLAM. I dont think EVERY cabinet thats being installed will be listed but it gives you a rough idea on how they are progressing.

There are 6 exchanges in Aberdeen due to go live by end September so they have a lot of work to get through! I'm on the Lochnagar exchange and while no sign of my new cab yet, there were a couple of openreach vans working at the existing cab for a good few hours the other day. Not sure what they were doing but I'm hoping its a good sign.

I'm also interested in the the Kincorth exchange because I work in Altens and we get pretty dire speeds over here. Although it seems there are no plans for FTTC on the industrial estate for a wee while yet

Thanks. I've already spoken to the Aberdeen City Council planning department. They advised that planning permission is only required within conservation areas. Cove isn't a conservation area, so nothing on that site

You are right though, BT have a lot of work to do to get through everything by the end of September.

go here Scottish roadworks and put your post code up.. it will tell you if bt are doing work and if its on your cabinet

You are connected to Kilmarnock cabinet WS/KIL 28.

This cabinet is still within the build process. I’m sorry that this cab is delayed, however, we are hoping that this cabinet will go ‘live’ to accept orders in Mid- November.
i can wait till then easy. am just happy that a will be getting it soon

Who did you contact at Openreach? I didn't think they spoke to the public directly
