Ah.
You are extremely unlucky or very lucky, depending on how you look at it.
Your postcode is marked for FTTP which doesn't involve cabinets. It's a direct fibre service with speeds of 330Mb/s rather than the 'Up to 80Mb/s' speeds with FTTC.
FTTP is a much better service than FTTC. Unfortunately it's also harder to roll out and so for now BT are focusing on FTTC rather than FTTP. You'll get your FTTP service eventually but I would say BT haven't installed FTTP yet.
There are several cases where BT have installed FTTC in a FTTC/P area and left the FTTP zones for now.
Your best bet is to contact Openreach enquiries and complaints and see if they can give you any clues on to when you might have FTTP installed.

Ta for that comprehensive explanation! Do you have the details for BT openreach?

I'll PM it to you to save BT the spam
They usually respond in a few days unfortunately as it's Friday it may take a little longer.

Thanks again
Dear XXXXXXX,
Melrosegate exchange is having a mix of fibre technology delivered. Namely FTTC and FTTP.
Your address is due to get FTTP, however, due to its more complex build it take longer to install the infrastructure than FTTC.
We have planned the job and will shortly be starting to build the underground infra-structure. We are hoping that you will be able to order fibre to the home broadband in around a years' time.
I appreciate it is frustrating having to wait that long, however, as stated it is a complex network to build.
Regards

Well, it will be an annoying wait but it will be worth it in the long run.
FTTP is far more future proof than FTTC, I only get about 50meg on an upto 80 meg connection, with FTTP you order 100 and thats what you get

Hi Xela,
Just curious if you are in the same area as me (I'm fed from Cab 28 on Heworth Green). I've mailed Openreach and this is their response:
Thank you for your Fibre Broadband enquiry you are connected to Cabinet 28,
Openreach are rolling out Fibre Broadband access to 66% of the UK by the end of November 2014, this is a complex long term project and we are still planning where the final geographical coverage will be.
I am afraid that we cannot advise if your Cabinet will be enabled at this stage, we do however update our micro-site every quarter with our latest deployment plan.
The Micro-Site can be viewed using the following link:
http://www.openreach-communications.co.uk/superfast/...
Please continue to monitor our Micro Site which will keep you up to date with our latest deployment news for your exchange, the site also contains FAQs.
Would be nice to confirm if they intend to FTTP this area as none of the local cabs have had anything done

I'm on Heworth Road so can't be far away.
FTTP is probably worth waiting for because the ADSL2+ speeds aren't terrible in this area.

I finally received this more detailed reply today:
Apologies for my colleague in not giving yourself a comprehensive reply.
'You are in an FTTP enabled area, however, we are are still in the early stages of deployment. We have started to install the spine fibre cable from the exchange, however, we still need to install the fibres from the splitting points to the fibre distribution points and then install the fibre tubing to the manifolds, (you'll see these appearing near the 'copper' DP's/poles.
Unfortunately, at this time I cannot give you a deployment date.

As York has been declared a MBORC area due to the floods, I suspect we won't see this completed within the next 12-24

i have been trying to find the email address for openreach to ask about cabinets near me. I wonder if you could let me have the contact details? I will be very obliged as it is a bit of a thankless task trying to get any detail on fibre from my provider TT

Hi,
I've got to say that I emailed them and got a reply basically saying there were high volumes of emails and they would get back to me at some point..
Its been a week and heard nothing more, so I'm a little bit pessimistic..
Neighbours had infinity for a while, I still can't get it even though relevant cabinets been upgraded for months and BT retail knows nothing... doh!
|
|
|
It could be a database error, or you could be on a diffrent cabinet to your neighbour.
If you want to PM me your postcode and house number I'll take a look and see what I can find out.

I have emailed them as well and got the same response you did but am still hopeful they will respond it may just take time!! You think there must be an easier way do get information - why don't they publish details then at least we would know. Another pig just flew over!
|
|
|
|
I had emailed openreach and although no response yet I was able to go on to the TT website and order fibre and also see the BT checker is now recognising my address!! I put this down to the email and just shows that it works. Thank you all for your suggestions. Very happy assuming no further hitches and they actually do come and link me up....will know soon enough!

Woohoo got an answer back from OpenReach:-
I can advise that the cab in question, cab 9 on the Canterbury exchange, is due to complete by February 2013. There are delays unfortunately that have been caused as traffic management and road closures have been required to carry out the work needed to ready the cab for fibre broadband.
Well that saves me listening to the cab to see if its actually working and looking a bit weird on a public road (or weirder than normal!)
So it takes a while for them to respond about 9 or 10 working days, but they seem to eventually.
Id like to say a massive thanks to Ronski for all his hard work locating the cabinet!
Roll on Feb.

|
|
Your welcome, glad you got positive reply, as least you know its on it's way.
Not surprised it takes them that long to reply, they must be snowed under with emails.

Well what do you know, BT have decided to put back the installation of FTTC until March 2014!
I give up, I actually am beginning to believe that it will never be done, its taken 2 years of dates and now another one. Doh!
|
|
|
The so far away in the distance date just means it is part of the plans, but after complaints about dates moving they have moved them so far away now that they can be more sure of hitting it.

Noticed a few weeks back that the FTTP data had disappeared from my number on the checker, so I sent a chase email.
'Since our last communication, your cabinet area, Melrosegate 28 has been reviewed.
The decision was made to roll out fibre broadband in this cab area as FTTC technology, the expected go live date is March '13.
However, we may be able to enable the cabinet before this date, but as it is still in the early planning stages I cannot state whether this may occur.'
I'm assuming that's actually meant to be March 14 as I received this in April 13....

Just in case anyone is still following this thread - FTTC cab is finally in situ for Cab 28 on MYMSG now (installed a week or so ago). BT are being their usual efficient selves - nothing on the checker yet and nga.enquiries have mailed me today (in response to an email before the cab appeared!) stating late Dec/early Jan for go live.....

|
|
Cabinet is now showing as live - it went from a 31st May date in late Feb to showing live earlier this week
