They are not change the plan though they just just change to another random date

If you work like that you are likly to go bankrupt. The work that has been carried out by contractors needs to be paid. By not completing work that has been started will not make then any money.
At the moment it would appear that they look like idiots and could not manage a you know what -----------------------

BT use a random Project Management. Youcome up with a list of exchanges and then just put a date 3 months out for them to be enabled. They then enable a few of the equanges each quarter and push the rest out another 3 months. You contuinue the same process each quarter.

In the real world of course you would expect about 98% to be completed to the published times scales with only a few pushed out due to major unexpected issues but BT are not in the real world. In the real world a Project manager that kept doing what BT do would be fired.

I think we can expect some of the newly announced exchanges to be live in 2013 but some of the existing planned ones not to be.

Some of the newly announced exchanges will be small, in areas of the country that are reasonably well advanced with the plans.

BT have really got themselves into a corner by making dates available and then pushing them out by three months at a time rather than changing the dates to more or less fit their current plans which, we would hope, are more detailed and more accurate than the dates on the BTW number checker which certainly isnt winning BT any friends.

I dont think so. BT are prertty much working through the list by the phases and just pusing everything out a quarter when they miss it. It is very unlikely any of the new 2013 exchanges will go live in 2013at best a few might golive in Q4 2013

And if BT sacked their project managers would we know?

Without sight of their plans and, crucially, their cost model we cannot how they are performing against them.

If they are running within budget for the work that has been done I am sure the senior management will be reasonably happy.

Project managers have both planned dates and costs to meet. It is no use delivering to plan if you are way over budget.

This is a roll-out funded by BT OR as a commecrcial venture. We have no say.

Most people prefer realistic date estimates rather than fiction.

If you have a proper project plan with timescales it is not unreasable to expect 90% plus exchanges to ne enabled within that timesacale the fact that BT are not indicates it is not a plan at all but just a list of exchanges which they attach a date to 3 months in the future knowing that in most cases they will not met that date
and when they mis it push them out 3 months and then another 3 months

Basically theyare working throughthe list of excchanges in Phase order but the dates are pretty meaningless

Project Managers are in the real world expected to meed project dates and yes they also have to deliver to budgets and in most cases slipping dates pushes up costs as well as upsetting your customers
