Hi,
BT have indicated that around 10 FTTC cabinets will be install for the Woburn Sands Exchange area in early November.
This will provide FTTC to:
- Woburn Sands
- Wavendon
- Wavendon Gate
- Brinklow (commercial / industrial area)
- Kingston (commercial / industrial area).
I understand that other areas of Milton Keynes connected to the Bradwell Abbey Exchange which currently don't have NGA have been delayed slightly due to overrunning survey work and duct problems.
I hope someone finds this useful. More information can be found on the Milton Keynes Broadband Action Groups forum at mkbag.org
Regards,
Gareth

interesting i dont think that is correct - Openreach has not made any public statement onc verage for wonburn sands as far as i understand only that is an announced exchnage
|

Yes its not announced.
But we got dates of March from BT. The 21CN migration was early and it appears this fibre deployment will be early too.
Believe me they are laying the ducting, fibre and doing the cabinets as I write this.

Gareth

All the cabs are now in and have power.
Fibre has yet to be blown to some cabs due to a now cleared blockage near Woburn Sands Exchange.

3 Openreach trucks today in Passalewe Lane, Wavendon Gate.
Much cable being fed into ducts at corner of Walton End and Passalewe Lane.
I'm trying to keep calm and wait for the end of March 2013!

Cheers for that.
Well, we have someone keeping an eye for us and I'm reliably informed they are doing as much work as they can but that there is another blockage somewhere in Woburn Sands High Street which needs to be sorted out. By the sounds of it they have 'worked around' the problem they had getting ducting though Wavendon,
 that's my happy face.
The North will go live once they can get ducting and subsequently fibre to the Exchange. However, we didn't get a straight answer for the FTTP.
;-( thats my glum face.
The target for all the current work is 30 November - despite what the checker says.

Did your campaign, other private individuals or the council subsidise BT for these deployments?

Woburn Sands is done as part of Commercial deployement no funding and no public money

There has been no subsidy from anyone. But, we've always been promised by BT that it can and would be sorted but was very expensive.
But, there is no other competition in Milton Keynes so the business case is far simpler. The main focus for BT was to get BDUK funding for MK which for some reason they thought would be a huge amount. However, the funding is very very small so they appear to have just opted to get on with it. The BDUK funding will cover NGA for some small Exchanges which arn't as urgent because 99% on those exchange must get more than 2-3 Meg anyway.
We did do some campaign activity which got BT's attention and we believe this is why Woburn Sands has been done. However, the coverage is way beyond what we could have possibly hoped for.
It also worth pointing out that Woburn Sands looks like an old Exchange. However, it is actually only built in the 80's and is highly specified. So the necessary upgrades were not as serious as one might imagine. We've know it would be upgrade since last Christmas due to planning applications.

Gareth

More ducting is going in but there is another blockage near the Exchange within Woburn Sands High Street.

If that is definitely the case that's very interesting indeed.

100% sure there was no public money

But you're not suggesting that they will start taking orders before 2013 are you?
|
|
|

Seriously been advised the target is 31 Nov. They are going to over run slightly though as they need to further work in Wavendon - and its a big job.
The rest is done. Will be very close to Christmas or just into the new year.

Gareth

All,
The earlier delayed work on FTTP for properties connected to Bradwell Abbey exchange has now commenced. This will add a further 10,000 properties to the FTTP fibre network in MK. We understand most work will be completed by April 2013 and is being undertaken jointly by Openreach and a third party.

Thanks, Gareth, I am slightly shocked!
That means I will now have to get on and do some serious research on which FTTC provider/product to choose!
I had been keeping an eye on Woburn Sands High Street on roadworks.org but I had missed the Wavendon traffic lights planned for this week/week-end (I'd better tell the wife as she goes that way to work!)
|
|
|

Yeah the job is bigger than I expected. They have 5 duct blockages to remove and 100M of ducting to replace. But, they appear to be 'going for it' but they are committed now so need to get the job done.
Other parts of MK are moving along quickly too so not long now.

Gareth

Fibre is going in today 11 Dec - 12 Dec and I understand the cabs will go live before Christmas. So installs in the new year.

All,
Openreach now indicate that Woburn Sands is accepting orders for fibre broadband.
Openreach have also indicated that some properties within the Woburn Sands Exchange area will not receive FTTC and will instead get FTTP but installation will not occur until early 2014.

Thanks for all that Gareth, (and sorry tro hear about the delay to FTTP in South Wavendon Gate )
Meanwile over in North Wavendon Gate, I am trying to find a provider who recognises that the Woburn Sands excahnge is now accepting FTTC orders.
As you say, the Openreach checker indicates that the exchange is accepting orders but none of the ISP's sites I have looked at recognise my phone number as being able to receive a FTTC service. The closest I can get is on the AAISP website using my postcode which refers to the BT Wholesale checker and (confusingly) says:
"Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 31st December 2013. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 80 Mbps and upstream line speed of 20 Mbps."
Am I just being impatient in expecting to be able to place an order (expecially over the Christmas period!) or should I be worried that I am not actually going to get a service from the cabinet which is less than 150m from my house?
|
|
|
That BT wholesale message actually means it's not available to you yet, it should really read your line will support to make it clearer, but alas it's always been that way, you'll probably find the date will have changed to March by tomorrow, or of course it could go live, you never know.
Try this one http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/ADSLChecker.Addres...
Edit. Just realised it says December 2013, strange if the cabinet is already in, try the checker above with you're house number + postcode.

Thanks, RONSKI,
but it gives me the same result as I quoted (i.e. "...FTTC by December 2013.....your line currently supports a fibre technology...").
Confused? Yes!
|
|
|
That confirms your cabinet is not live yet, and for whatever reason BT have an estimated date of December 2013 for going live, but those dates are very unreliable could be earlier or later. Only suggestion I can make is to email nga.enquiries at openreach.co.uk with you're address and phone number. It can take up to ten days for a reply.

|
|

OK. Thanks.
I think I'll wait until Wednesday, (2nd Jan) and see if it has just been a Christmas glitch. If no joy then I'll follow up your suggestion.

Reply finally received from the " [email protected]" which says:
"In your locality work is ongoing and at present the estimated date for cabinet smws8 enablement is close March 2013 assuming there are no issues. As Im sure youll appreciate any date quoted is at best an estimate and with recent conditions is likely to change."
There is no change in the BT Wholesale checkers i.e. the phone number checker still makes no mention of FTTC and the address checker still predicts December 2013.
So what exactly is the point of the checkers?

Hi,
SMWSP8 has a cab, DSLAM, Fibre and power.
It just got delayed due to ducting problems between Woburn Sands and Wavendon.
Trust me. It will go live any day.

Gareth

The DSLCHECKER website says that Woburn Sands cabinet 4 serving Wavendon Gate has WBC FTTC available (up to 21 mbps) but I am only getting 2.6 bmps.

The DSLCHECKER website says that Woburn Sands cabinet 4 serving Wavendon Gate has WBC FTTC available (up to 21 mbps) but I am only getting 2.6 bmps. Have you ordered an FTTC product from an ISP and had it installed? You are not automatically upgraded from your previous ADSL product to FTTC, nor will an ADSL hardware setup work with FTTC.
If you have had FTTC installed, you need to discuss the situation with them, as 2.6Mbps (measured how?) is far short of expectation.

Trust me. It will go live any day.
Thanks, Gareth, believe me I trust you way more than I trust anything I have heard from BT!
It is BT's inconsistency that staggers me.
Three different sources of information from BT; the BT phone number checker, the BT address checker and the "nga.enquiries" email and they all give different answers = no mention of availability, December 2013 and March 2013 respectively!

Terry,
It's taken me a few mins to workout what you mean.
I know roughly where you live. Please don't disclose where you live on this forum.
Although you're in Wavendon Gate your copper phone line is actually connected to the green cab near the Wavendon Arms. This isn't ideal.
Try this checker
https://www.btwholesale.com/pages/static/Community/B...
You can get 15-20Mbps via FTTC. This is a different product which you can order from your ISP. The Wavendon Fibre cabinet is live.
Milton Keynes Broadband Action Group will be meeting in the Wavendon Arms on 11th Feb at 19:30 if you'd like to talk to some of us about it. More info at http://mkbag.org

Gareth
