A few months ago, Brixham was put on the list for 2013 FTTC rollout. This morning, walking back from town, I spotted a new FTTC cab (the smaller type) had been installed near PCP 1. Looking at the checkers, nothing is mentioned for addresses close to that cabinet. The Superfast site still has us listed as a Future Exchange. Pretty pleased even if, as I suspect, we're on an exchange line.

New cabinet was being installed in Summer Lane when I drove past last week on the way to Torquay. Now all I need is one installed on the corner of Milton Street and Southdown Hill
|
|
|
Yep, they're still busy with it (drove past on the weekend).
So far cab 1 looks complete with cabs 2 & 10 (pretty sure Summer Lane is 10) currently being installed. 1 is on the corner of New road and Holwell and 2 is on the corner of New road & Market street.
What's the cab number at Milton & Southdown?
Edit: Found it, it's 21. Tricky to get a cab in near there though, unless its placed on the corner of Southdown & Upton Manor.

It seems cabs 15 (Castor Road) and 18 (Barnfield Road) are currently being installed. I'll try and confirm this weekend.

Cab 18 was delayed, now scheduled to start today.
Exchange has now moved from Future Exchange to Coming Soon with a target date of June 2013

I was looking on the Torbay planning website and notice that Cudhill near to me had planning permission for FTTC cab, where are you getting the information on what cabs have been done / are getting done?
The superfast website link just says June 2013.

The superfast website link just says June 2013. Is that cab 8 - if so, it's been installed. I drove past it earlier this afternoon.
I use the Roadworks.org site - there is very little forward planning for the cabs as the disruption appears to be very minimal, so it's just checking that site every day or two to see when the telephone icon appears. The info normally shows if its NGA related work.

Been very quiet lately, but some works on the roadworks site:
CAB 21 on Southdown Hill looks to be getting it's install (planned from way back):
Install 1m of 1 way poly duct in Carriageway,Install 2m of 1 way poly duct in Footway,Install 2m of 1 way power duct in Footway,Performing an 1excavation to expose existing power cable in Footway,Provide 1 Cabinet and base (NGA cabinets)
Fibre works - New Road (from Cudhill to Brixham Road):
Locate and excavate 1 blockage in existing duct,Provide 1 fibre joint in cable,Test 1 existing ducts for spare capacity
Anyone care to confirm the CAB 21 install? I'm only back Friday night so I'll have a look on the weekend if not.

Yes CAB 21 is getting a fibre cabinet install over two days, today and tomorrow. 41 metres of polyduct. Road is closed, my wife is complaining as she has drive down southdown avenue

Excellent news (not for your wife, but there you go).

Now if only they would offer FTTH! Shame I am with Sky, as it will only ever be FTTC

Once the cab is FTTC, you'll be able to order fibre on demand later on this year. Mind you the costs might be prohibitive...

It looks like Cab 5 on Burton Street is finally getting their FTTC twin.
20-28 March:
High impact, delays likely
Location : ADJ OPP 86 TO OPP 66 BURTON STREET
Description : Install 79m of 1 way poly duct in Carriageway
Current status: Planned work about to start
Traffic lights, etc: Traffic control (two-way signals)
A road to avoid as its pretty busy at the best of times.

Quick update: It seems that the Wholesale checker is now showing FTTC speed estimates for telephone numbers, instead of just postcodes.

Tried my number but it doesn't exist I guess because I am on Sky LLU. Still reckons for my address I will get 65mb down and 20mb up. Guys were doing more work on CAB21 earlier in the week as they were messing around with the cable bundles between the old and new cabs.

EDIT: And Plusnet has accepted my order!
Just checked by address and can see it says "Available", question is now do I want to pay Sky for early termination of phone line and broadband or stick with them for fibre.
It comes down to PlusNet or Sky and today my broadband dropped to 30KB/s downstream, upstream unaffected and I now need to wait up to 5 days for their tier 2 support, not happy!!!

Rang Sky, they couldn't come close to the plusNet offer. Plus I went through TCB install is the first week in May, happy days!

Let me know how you get on! I should get 65mb according to BT, much better than the 10.3mb with Sky!

Let me know how you get on! I should get 65mb according to BT, much better than the 10.3mb with Sky! Yeah, will do - fortunately, I have the day off.
10.3? That's pretty low. Currently we get 18.5 down, with 66/20 predicted.

Best I have ever got was 11.5mb with BE. Having said that the BT guy last time said we had a D Pole and all the blocks were corroded so he crimped directly to the cable on the pole from the house.

Install date of the 9th May, predicted 63.5mb/20mb so not too shabby.
plusNet support have been fantastic it has to be said!

Excellent stuff!!
If anyone is on cab 5, could you confirm whether or not its live? Initial indications are saying its not.

Very nice young chap from OpenReach. Took around an hour from the first call (turns out the phone line was installed by electricians and we didn't have a proper master socket).
All done and this is what I'm getting.

Well pleased, as its pretty much the estimate I was given.

Hi
I am waiting for fibre to go live any day now but also don't have a master socket .
Did they charge extra or did they just have one in the van and fit it?
Cheers
|
|
|
|
No extra charge - the installer replaces any existing socket (normally master) with a filtered unit as part of the normal install.
|
|
|
Nice one! My install date is the 10th May with plusnet! With any luck I should get similar speeds from the same cab

Ok so next street down has Fibre and accepting orders but not us. Any Ideas how to find out how to get any updates on the rest of the rollout or is that it. If you don't get it now you don't get it at all? - Update- Post code checked It's 2 doors away

Not all the cabinets have been give a fibre twin. Any idea what your PCP number is? If you use the BT Wholesale checker with your phone number, it will tell you. If your number is not recognised (Sky or TalkTalk) you can try your address at the link above.
A friend of mine is on Cab 7 and they've not been upgraded (they live on Doctors Road). I had assumed they were on Cab 5 (Burton Street). I've not looked around to find 7 (yet).
Edit: It's possible the cabinets not done now will be part of the Connecting Devon & Somerset project.

So OR engineer has been round, modem has three solid lights and no fibre as the job hasn't been closed so plusNet cannot activate it. Arghhhhhhhhh!!!
With any luck it gets activated later today.
|
|
|
At least your appointment was kept. You can always call Plusnet and ask them to see if they can push OR to close the job.

Were on Cab 13.
I can see we are fed from a different Telegraph pole to everyone else on the street....
Post code checker show only me and next door neighbour don't have Fibre available the rest of the street does.
Now I need to see If I can move my line.

Are the others on a different cab? If not, it could be a database error.
|
|
|
|
All the other houses on our street have lines into the back of the houses from Cab 20 and ours comes in from the front fed from Cab 13. I am hoping Openreach will conact me and I can see if I can get my line moved. I have filed in a contact form online so just waiting to hear from them.
