so the openreach engineer didnt leave with it online, he just plugged in the modem and went?

Yes but he ran line tests and said from his perspective it was all up and running. If the cause of it not working does end up being because of log on credentials from the ISP then that's outside of the engineer's remit.

Might be different for ADSL24 than for BT Infinity. As BT provide the router in advance with correct login etc ready installed, the Openreach installer can usually connect it and check out 'real' internet use.

I think ADSL24 don't provide a router, but leave it the the user to provide one (or do PC pppoe connection). Setting that up is probably beyond the installer's remit (and beyond their capability for many of the outsourced contractors).

Moved (with trepidation) to BT Infinity 2 for upload speed. Happy BE user for several years.

Yes, some installs are 'modem only' so that's what is done. `you fit the modem and go. Only if the ISP has ordered a managed install does the engineer then connect a CP supplied router and hook it all up.

ok thanks for clearing that up.

BT Infinity always includes the extra service, Sky for example don't and their router even comes with accurate colour pictures on how to connect the ethernet cable to the Openreach modem. smile
