7 weeks for installation?

OK, so I have decided to ditch Virgin and am now trying to get Sky fibre.

However the earliest date I can get for the new phone and FTTC install is Feb 9th 2013!

Can they be that busy? Ive tried to call BT to check but they need an order placed before they can check the dates.

Sky just say that that is all they can get from BTO and I have to wait.

Virgin cancels on Jan 13th, so nearly 4 weeks without service.

Its EMMONT (Montfort in Leicester).

Leics the demand is clearly very high and I was mocked 2 years back saying area had no demand

Its bad idea to cancel old bb before new is up and running.

I had to wait 5 weeks plus don't forget it's Christmas so that pretty much writes off next week and half of the week after so that brings it down to just over 5 weeks.

well we had someone in a different area book yesterday and got an appointment mid jan, my appointment was mid jan but i originally booked that 3 weeks ago. 2-3 weeks seems more the norm in other areas.

Not actually cancelled yet, just given them notice, Ill just call them to change the disconnection date.

The new phone line is probably the part that is delaying the whole order the most. Jan/Feb times for phone line provisions is quite normal of late due to weather.

We have a bt line already here, it had a dial tone till about 3 months ago.

Just checked on the BT site and it says the line is "stopped" and I need to order a new one.

I assume that the line is disconnected eside or dside and needs to be reconnected.

Been waiting for 3 years for FTTC and getting impatient!

Well, different exchange, and probably a live line, but read this post made today, and what follows. The opening post there is of course also relevant.

Then there is a thread about someone else trying to get a Sky line and FTTC since the middle of November. The original problem won't have been Sky's fault, but the way things have gone since is a bit grim.

There's a lot of irrelevant junk in the thread, which is this long one, but make sure you read the OP's posts.

So it looks like it is because it is booked as a sim provide even though I have a stopped line that should only need a FTTC engineer.

Ill try my arm calling them tomorrow to see if they can separate the orders.

issue it seems with these dual installs in theory they supposed to be simpler and save time over normal seperate voice and bb, but 7+ week waits is clearly longer. Typically in the past one would order a line wait about 2 weeks, then order bb and wait anohter 1-2 weeks.

But it seems with these needing larger timeslots they are harder to fit in at shorter notice.
