100% take-up of FTTC

Could the current FTTC rollout, eventually, support 100% take-up? Or would the number and/or size of cabinets required for this in streets make this impossible?

I think it is possible.

It appears that the kit has already shrunk since the rollout started so it is possible that 1 fibre cab could cater for 384 customers against 400 in a standard copper cab. The fun would be fitting the 800 ties in the old cab ( 400 in 400 out).

If it got so far you could remove the old copper cab completely and reterminate the pairs direct to the new cab.

There have also been reports of second fibre cabs being added to the same PCP to cater for takeup so yes, I would imagine 100% takeup would be possible in this manner.

Voice would still work, all lines come from the exchange and go into the FTTC cab and come back out to the EU, so voice is never disconnected, that is what he means. (off course presuming the FTTC cab had the capacity)

I gather you mean combining a PCP and DSLAM installation in one cabinet. That is what I took the poster to mean, but was querying whether or not he had really thought it through, having the D-side and E-side copper for both FTTC cabinets, and appropriate links.

It would possibly also mean engineers having access to the DSLAM equipment, which appears not to be desired by Openreach.

I think this idea is highly unlikely.

How many lines does the PCP service?

I have already heard of peoples fibre slowing down and when they complain they are told it is congestion. one person told me they was better off on ADSL and if things don't improve in the next few months as their contract will end then, they will go back onto ADSL. cheaper and faster.
