I have a fault on the voice line, so after about 3 weeks, Openreach fixed it (I had to escalate to Executive Complaints to get any thing done!). My FTTC never went off all the time I had the voice issue. However, once that had been fixed, I noted my FTTC (Infinity 2) had reduced from a steady and stable 60 down /16 up to a dreary 43 down and 9 up. Latency hovers somewhere around 25
Some droid at Executive Level Technical Complaints tells me the line is 're-profiling'. That is, he downgraded it to the lower Infinity option, then upgraded it to the Infinity 2 (Unlimited) option. This, he said, would bring the profile up to scratch more quickly. This was 10 days ago, and I'm still getting 43 / 9 (or worse).
The droid at BT suggests line profiling can take several weeks for fibre, and to be patient. Is he pulling the wool over my eyes, or have they borked my line, and I am going to have to put up with it? There is no fault, per se.
Off the back of that, if I [censored] off to Plusnet for a few quid less a month (and do the phone through them) will they have the final say on my line speed or will they have to bow to the droids at Openreach? I do realise that PN are part of BT.
I just want to be sure I'm being given facts, not sales or bull pitch.

Sounds about right , i had a voice issue which dropped my speed similar to yours
Once the issue was fixed it took around 22 days for the speed to return to normal

Openreach is in control of the line profiles and generally is not that flexible, just like BT Wholesale in the ear 2000 to 2007

Have you got a HG612 modem, or the ECI one?
If it is the HG612, a couple of people here have considerable expertise in line problem diagnosis/analysis, which could be useful to you.
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,website and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 54.3/15.4Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

I belive I have the HG612 modem, it's like the one here

In that case it might be an idea to do that unlocking, and then install the Bald_Eagle1 monitoring system. He and a couple of others are great at analysing the output from that, and from simple telnet commands.
For instance, my line stats on Plusnet FTTC:-

I may try the unlocking in the very near future. I actually have two of them due to a mix up at BT. They think I only have one Same goes for the hub.
Would I be right in thinking that -
Max: Upstream rate = 14982 Kbps, Downstream rate = 63740 Kbps
...is where I would see what my line profile is set to?
My concern at present, is that BT have deliberately set it low because they can't (or won't fix) an underlying fault on the line. As I have mentioned elsewhere, Infinity was working at a very stable 60Mbps down and around 16Mbps upload until they 'fixed' a voice fault, a fault which took them nearly 3 weeks to resolve. Since then, it has dipped down to 47Mbps and 13Mbps respectively. The latency has also shot up from around 10 to almost 40.
I'd not normally be bothered, 47Mbps is considerably better than the 13Mbps I was getting on copper ADSL, but I'm paying a few quid more a month for a Sky like service, and if that is all my line will now support, I may as well either shove off to Sky or migrate over to Plusnet and nag them to get Openreach to do something to hopefully get it back up to where it was. BT Executive Level complaints dept aren't budging now. They say the line is working (which I can't dispute) but will not give me a plausible reason as to why it has dipped since the repair. I think I've exhausted my 'complaining' options, although I have done quite nicely out of the goodwill credits they've given me on my account! lol!
Only concern in moving to PN, is I lose roaming wifi hot spots. Sky is looking more and more attractive but if BT have borked the line, then going to Sky is a headache waiting to happen

The Max is the attainable rate, the line underneath starting with path is the sync speed. If you've had faults on your line then the DLM would of dropped the speed and increased error correction, given time the speed should improve. An increase in error correction level will increase latency.
Sometime it helps to turn the router (not modem) off for a short while, just incase the ipprofile hasn't changed to match a new sync speed.
