Hello all

I have a spare HG622 if someone would like 1

Purchased from this batch recently on ebay

Reason its spaRe BT replaced my modem to A HG612 from the ECI I had so I unlocked that and got offered Asus U66 @ price I could'nt resist ..so its going spare

BT Infinity 2 @ 74.97/17.65 Mbits
VM 100MB @ 106Mbits

Further (bad) experience with HG622 performance.

When still using Openreach HG612 I had sync speeds 71080/20000
After a day or so of HG622 they were 61081/18655
Left for a week (while away but others using internet) and they are now 53289/18124

I am getting around 1000 RSCorr every second.
It was averaging well under 10 per second with the HG612, with occasional peaks to a few hundred.
(R: 16, N: 51)

If the stats collector for HG622 is ready I'd be happy to run it for a day or so to see if there are any more pointers.
(Not too worried by slower speed right at the moment).
Then I'm going to swap back in HG612 + HomeHub.

Anyone else had similar issues with HG622?

Wow, that's a pretty high interleaving/FEC settings there.

Downstream, it is asking for INP 5 (higher than standard) and delay of 8ms (standard).

However, the modem has chosen FEC settings where 16 byte in 51 are parity bytes, or overhead - which is 31%. A "normal" level would be 20%.

With interleaving/FEC set that high, you might find yourself banded soon, and limited to a set speed. It is interesting that you're at a 9dB SNRM, which could suggest this has happened, even though you aren't sitting at a nice round figure.

But your upstream is the worst setting I've seen at all. INP of 4 and a delay of 7ms are pretty unusual, and the modem has reacted by choosing to send parity data in 10 bytes out of 35, or 29%.

@WWWombat Thanks for the comment: pretty much what I thought.

I have now removed the HG622 and reinstalled the HG612 + HomeHub.

Currently on exactly the same sync etc as before, as I would expect from DLM.
Max sync speed has gone up significantly on 612, with higher snr.
Now seeing almost no DSCorr errors.

I'll wait to see how long it takes DLM to get me back to speeds before I tried the HG622.

I'd be interested to hear what other people's experience of HG622 with FTTC have been.

Yes - RSCorr is the significant thing for DLM to decide whether to reduce intervention.

When you show the summary of the stats, note that parameter I (capital i) is also important to interleaving, though it is often the same as N.

Also that INP and "delay" are the input requirements - so you should show INP too - as they are what DLM sets to say what level of interleaving/FEC is required. R, D, I and N are then the values that the modems select to try to meet these requirements.

I notice the word bearer appears on the hg622 output instead of path.

So seems the hg622 has different dsl firmware (is also diff chipset?).

The chipset is apparently the same: The HG622 is based on the Broadcom BCM6368 System-on-Chip. So DSL performance should be the same or similar to the Openreach HG612 which is powered by the 6368, too. (from http://huaweihg612hacking.wordpress.com/2013/01/28/c... )

The firmware would have to be a little different to allow for the extra features. There is quite a lot about the firmware in the thread referenced above. I think askboid put on the jazzztel firmware (mine now disconnected so I can't check).

A further thing I noticed...

When you put the 612 back in place, the upstream speed altered slightly, as did the upstream attainable.

However, even though the downstream attainable changed by a full 2Mbps (80.2 to 82.3), the actual speed stayed identical at 53289. Yet your SNR raised from 8.9 to 9.2dB

I think that suggests you *are* banded in some way, even if it isn't a round number.

I think that DLM still thinks I need a heavy dose of error correction.
DLM will wait till it has seen the connection stable and lower rate of DSCorr for a bit before it reduces (or even eventually removes?) the error correction.

The actual sync rate quoted is the rate after FEC overheads are taken into account, and the R/I overhead (16/51) accounts for most of the difference between my Max rate and sync rate.

I don't know how banding interacts with other details such as FEC managed by DLM.
When I had issues soon after install (due to internal star wiring), the recovery showed sync speeds clearly improving by bands (?/43999/59999/73999) before settling around a slightly higher non-banded number. Overall it took a bit over three weeks. (Sadly, I wasn't keeping stats at the early part of the recovery, hence the ?).

I'm interested to see the recovery pattern and timescale from this situation.

Just in case anyone thinks I am unhappy with asbokid as seller of the HG622, let me say this is absolutely not the case. Without any prompting from me, he has offered a refund for the HG622 after he read my comments. My posts have been either to inform people of what I have found, or to see if anyone had helpful suggestions (which they did), and not complaints.

I'm not choosing the refund, but hanging onto it (at least for now). I like to have spares; and it acts as a spare if either the HG612 or the HomeHub collapses. Also, it may well be that we get improved firmware, or somebody discovers and posts a configuration detail I had missed. And I like experimenting; though it is a shame that with DLM the way it is, unsuccessful experiments can take quite a time to undo.
