I've had one of the previous lot, been running now without re-sync for 79 days continuous since last re-sync on ADSL2+ line.

Thanks for posting this, just got one. It will be good to simplify setup with just single device, and to have spares as well.

Now 1 left.

Yep smile.

The 582n isn't too bad with this new laptop - they can connect at 130kbps on 20Mhz, and my SIII connects to it 65Mbps.

But the connection can just disappear frown. Have to restart the laptop/SIII as necessary.

Crazy demand for the 622s! Ten some time this morning, 7 by the time this thread started, and I got there just after the 9th must have gone, as I had to go through the credit card route - no PayPal balance.

Thanks to everyone for helping to support the Dogs Trust!

I hope you guys are going to be happy with the wireless. It's not the greatest by any means, even with this newer firmware. I've done some tests using a few transceivers and ironically, the best connection is with a Blackberry Curve. Some 802.11 USB dongles and internal transceivers suffer from the same problems that Roberto has mentioned with the 582n.

The wired connection works perfect, though.

It is 100% for charity, but if anyone would prefer a full refund that would be no problem smile

cheers, asbokid

I can't speak for anyone else, but however it goes you won't get any complaint or refund request from me.

Though if I think it isn't much good I shall say so tongue. Could even buy a WAP to connect to it!

these hg622 are pretty good value i think considering the prices I am seeing of some alternative vdsl kit around the £200 mark, even vdsl kit I see for £100 plus with 100mbit ports, these are under half that price.

Hard luck. I think you'd better take the 'speedy' out of your userid.

Maybe it will come around again. May be worth putting a Saved Search on eBay to get notified.

Ooof, cant do that, it's part of my DNA now! wink

Actually I did set up a "follow" on the blog. It's supposed to notify me of new posts, but I see now that this sale was an update on the previous sale blog post (so presumably no alert in that case).

Ah well, better luck next time maybe...

Hi Bobby,

Usually, it is the VLAN that needs to be configured (with VLAN ID 101)

See: http://www4.picturepush.com/photo/a/12826047/img/hg6...

Hopefully someone with a working VDSL2 link (we don't have VDSL2 here yet) could take some screenshots.

cheers, a

Received and working.

To help with configuration ....
I'm not saying this is correct or best; just it works.

1 - I restored default settings under Maintenance/Device
2 - Basic/DSL -> unticked AnnexM
3 - Basic/Link Interface/PTM -> set as in screenshot above http://www4.picturepush.com/photo/a/12826047/img/hg6... (thanks asbokid)
4 - Basic/Wan/WAN2_INTERNET_TR069_R_PTM2_4_1_1 . set [email protected] pass=bt, and favourite dns servers
5 - Basic/LAN set my preferred dns servers (194.73.82.242, 212.118.241.1)
6 - Basic/WLAN changed SSID and WPA pre-shared key

In 4, make sure to set values in the correct WAN connection.
The DNS servers here are the ones that will be used in 'nslookup xxx 192.168.1.1'

The dns servers in 5 are the ones that DHCP will instruct clients to use (so the ones in 4 will not generally be used as this skips the router as DNS server)

~~~
I'm seeing fractionally slower connection and fractionally higher interleave than with the HG612.
That may be because of all the modem disconnect/reconnect during getting the setip to work.
~~~
Bald_Eagle's stats collection not working right now with new modem.

~~~
Also, to use web interface from Chrome, I needed to add 192.168.1.1 to my adblock exceptions
same here, thanks Stephen & Asbo.
I can get my galaxy S3 connected via wireless fine, the wireless N adapter upstairs wont even see it, also the dell laptop next to the router saw the network, but wouldnt connect, was fine via a lan cable though.
Bit of a mixed bag, ok for a spare i suppose , and you never know if a firmware in the future will sort it out.
I gave it the same SSID and pass as the HomeHub had.
Almost all devices so far (2x laptop and iPad) just connected with no further change.
My son's android phone needed to be told to forget the network, and then reentered the (same) password and it worked.
Bald_Eagle's stats collection not working right now with new modem.
Checked using the older scripts which are easier to see inside.
The reason seems to be that it fails to login using admin/admin: it sees the user admin, and then says password incorrect.
Not sure why.
My similar script that I run to get quick summary stats works on a similar principle and works ok.
Most odd. Probably no time to look deeper before holidays ....
The new programs use a different (direct) method of logging in than the earlier script versions.
It might be useful to see relevant details from the various error logs from the times you did attempt to use the program(s) on the HG622, especially these lines:-
I wouldn't have thought there can be that much that needs tweaking to make them work with both the HG612 & HG622.
Does direct access via Telnet/PuTTy etc. still use admin, admin, sh to get to the Busybox shell where the usual xdslcmd commands can be run?
Installed yesterday.
A little plugging in and out as I tried to get configuration right (see earlier post).
I needed to put back the old modem a couple of times to browse the internet for configuration hints, so probably 6 or more modem disconnects in an hour or so.
I saw slight degradation in max attainable speeds after HG612; but could have been normal max speed variance.
This morning I find a significantly slower sync (from 71080 Kbps to 61081 Kbps),
and also for the first time ever upload sync is lowered (from 20000 Kbps to 18665 Kbps), and interleaving on upload (D: 653, delay:7).
I suspect this is DLM at work after my playing about yesterday while installing it.
Big shame I can't get the stats collection to work for now.
About to go on holiday but others in house so it will be left on.
I'll leave it be and see if things return to where they were with the HG622.
~~~
Compared to HG612/HomeHub for me, apart from those issues above which will probably iron out:
+ single box
+ ability to set DNS properly
- no screen to view connected devices and their wireless speeds
- very short mains cable makes it awkward to put it where I want

Hi

I was one of the lucky 10 and have been testing it..... It performs well on WAN throughput with no problem passing the full approx 74/18 (I am close to the cab) and so far am quite impressed. The GUI seems much more responsive than the HG612.

One slight irritation though. I wonder if anyone has managed to configure NAT / port mapping to allow access to the external IP address from within the internal network. After much Googling it would seem as if this router is not capable of it, requiring NAT Reflection or DNAT configs. It is not essential but would be useful for access to IP Cams on mobile devices without changing the address (ie local or external).

Cheers

Further to my last comments, I have just done some further tests that may help diagnose.
May be irrelevant because you say you have more direct login method from the new code than from the script.
However, it does indicate a slightly different way of arranging the login sequence;
even though the userid/password are the same as before.
It may be that the new login method is failing because of this different detail.

The following line (entered from the old script directory after 'set path=%path%;..\apps', and obviously derived by simplification from the old script)
Text
1
(sleep 2 & type ..\apps\login1.txt & sleep 2 & type ..\apps\login1.txt & sleep 1 & echo exit ) ^| Plink -telnet -P 23 192.168.1.1

works on the HG612 but fails on the HG622.

The failure shows

 Login: admin
Password:Login incorrect. Try again.

If you watch as it happens, you can see the effect of the first 'sleep 2' before the login 'admin' is displayed.
However, it then gives the 'Login incorrect' message without waiting for the second sleep., so it never sees the second 'admin' as a password.

It then prompts again for Login: and treats the second 'admin' as a second login attempt, and the 'exit' as a third login attempt.

I'm hoping to soon have access to a HG622 for testing purposes.

Hopefully, I'll soon have a solution that will work with both the HG612 & HG622 via a single program.

Excellent, thanks, and thanks again for the really useful program.
I'm pretty sure getting a common 612/622 version won't be too hard once you have a 622 to test with.
(Off on holiday for a week, so won't be responding to any questions such as 'does this new version work for you'.)

It seems that we have sussed it now (thanks asbokid), using just the one set of programs for both the HG612 & HG622 on VDSL2 connections, automatically detecting which modem is in use.

I'll continue testing for another couple of days before asking RONSKI to upload the amended programs (also including a few other minor 'improvements/additions').

Further (bad) experience with HG622 performance.
~~~
When still using Openreach HG612 I had sync speeds 71080/20000
After a day or so of HG622 they were 61081/18655
Left for a week (while away but others using internet) and they are now 53289/18124
I am getting around 1000 RSCorr every second.
It was averaging well under 10 per second with the HG612, with occasional peaks to a few hundred.
(R: 16, N: 51)
~~~
If the stats collector for HG622 is ready I'd be happy to run it for a day or so to see if there are any more pointers.
(Not too worried by slower speed right at the moment).
Then I'm going to swap back in HG612 + HomeHub.

Anyone else had similar issues with HG622?

Re: Huawei HG622 VDSL2 FTTC modem router on Ebay, 7 Left

[re: StephenTodd] [link to this post]

Wow, that's a pretty high interleaving/FEC settings there.

Downstream, it is asking for INP 5 (higher than standard) and delay of 8ms (standard).

However, the modem has chosen FEC settings where 16 byte in 51 are parity bytes, or overhead - which is 31%. A "normal" level would be 20%.

With interleaving/FEC set that high, you might find yourself banded soon, and limited to a set speed. It is interesting that you're at a 9dB SNRM, which could suggest this has happened, even though you aren't sitting at a nice round figure.

But your upstream is the worst setting I've seen at all. INP of 4 and a delay of 7ms are pretty unusual, and the modem has reacted by choosing to send parity data in 10 bytes out of 35, or 29%.

@WWWombat Thanks for the comment: pretty much what I thought.

I have now removed the HG622 and reinstalled the HG612 + HomeHub.

Currently on exactly the same sync etc as before, as I would expect from DLM.
Max sync speed has gone up significantly on 612, with higher snr.
Now seeing almost no DSCorr errors.

I'll wait to see how long it takes DLM to get me back to speeds before I tried the HG622.

I'd be interested to hear what other people's experience of HG622 with FTTC have been.

Yes - RSCorr is the significant thing for DLM to decide whether to reduce intervention.

When you show the summary of the stats, note that parameter I (capital i) is also important to interleaving, though it is often the same as N.

Also that INP and "delay" are the input requirements - so you should show INP too - as they are what DLM sets to say what level of interleaving/FEC is required. R, D, I and N are then the values that the modems select to try to meet these requirements.

I notice the word bearer appears on the hg622 output instead of path.

So seems the hg622 has different dsl firmware (is also diff chipset?).

The chipset is apparently the same: The HG622 is based on the Broadcom BCM6368 System-on-Chip. So DSL performance should be the same or similar to the Openreach HG612 which is powered by the 6368, too. (from http://huaweihg612hacking.wordpress.com/2013/01/28/c... )

The firmware would have to be a little different to allow for the extra features. There is quite a lot about the firmware in the thread referenced above. I think askboid put on the jazzztel firmware (mine now disconnected so I can't check).

A further thing I noticed...

When you put the 612 back in place, the upstream speed altered slightly, as did the upstream attainable.

However, even though the downstream attainable changed by a full 2Mbps (80.2 to 82.3), the actual speed stayed identical at 53289. Yet your SNR raised from 8.9 to 9.2dB

I think that suggests you *are* banded in some way, even if it isn't a round number.

I think that DLM still thinks I need a heavy dose of error correction.
DLM will wait till it has seen the connection stable and lower rate of DSCorr for a bit before it reduces (or even eventually removes?) the error correction.

The actual sync rate quoted is the rate after FEC overheads are taken into account, and the R/I overhead (16/51) accounts for most of the difference between my Max rate and sync rate.
~~~
I don't know how banding interacts with other details such as FEC managed by DLM.
When I had issues soon after install (due to internal star wiring), the recovery showed sync speeds clearly improving by bands (?/43999/59999/73999) before settling around a slightly higher non-banded number. Overall it took a bit over three weeks. (Sadly, I wasn't keeping stats at the early part of the recovery, hence the ?).
I'm interested to see the recovery pattern and timescale from this situation.
Just in case anyone thinks I am unhappy with asbokid as seller of the HG622, let me say this is absolutely not the case. Without any prompting from me, he has offered a refund for the HG622 after he read my comments. My posts have been either to inform people of what I have found, or to see if anyone had helpful suggestions (which they did), and not complaints.
I'm not choosing the refund, but hanging onto it (at least for now). I like to have spares; and it acts as a spare if either the HG612 or the HomeHub collapses. Also, it may well be that we get improved firmware, or somebody discovers and posts a configuration detail I had missed. And I like experimenting; though it is a shame that with DLM the way it is, unsuccessful experiments can take quite a time to undo.
DLM if lucky can remove FEC overheads pretty fast, but banding seems to take longer.
Try this post for more help about I, N, R and D and how they work within interleaving and FEC.
There is a relationship between I and N in the spec - one has to be a multiple of the other, but I can never remember which way around. They always seem to be the same in practice.
I noticed you used the HG622 as a combined modem/router.
FWIW, I tried the HG622 in bridge mode as a modem only, still using my Netgear WNR1000v3 as the router.
My speeds did drop to their current low level whilst using the HG622, but unlike your connection, didn't return on reinstalling the HG612.
My findings therefore may just be down to the crosstalk (or whatever it is) as being discussed in another thread.
(unless DLM disliked the HG622 that much that it's now making me play the waiting game before it decides to let me have a go at some more speed again).
TBH, the graphed stats in the few days I tried the HG622 didn't really look much different to those using data obtained from a HG612.
If/when my connection settles properly again, I'll give the HG622 a proper prolonged test, now that my amended programs work properly with it.
You said My speeds did drop to their current low level whilst using the HG622, but unlike your connection, didn't return on reinstalling the HG612.
Mine didn't return; you probably misinterpreted what I (ambiguously) said. After reinstalling the HG612 I said Currently on exactly the same sync etc as before, as I would expect from DLM. What I meant by that was that I was still on the same low sync as with the HG622 immediately before, not on the same high sync as previously on the 612.
DLM has behaved more or less as expected and I am now getting back to previous HG612 sync speeds (76179), but still not there.
14 May 53289 (with HG622, and then with HG612)
17 May 59998 (upload back to full)
22 May 63263
23 May 66998
Are your sync speeds similarly recovering?
As I mentioned before, with HG622 I was seeing RSCorr average rates of 1000's per second, with HG612 currently seeing under 10 per second.
Nope!
Currently DS 20667 Kbps, US 4774 Kbps
I do think I also have other issues at the moment though such as possibly increased crosstalk or more or less permanent REIN as my QLN graph has deteriorated since December, following 7 months of around 30Mb, even with the occasional resync.
EDIT:
Just to confirm, I now think it was pure coincidence that I started using the HG622 just at the time my connection was 'suffering'/acting a little strangely e.g. Interleaving being turned off unexpectedly & sync speeds already dropping while noting deteriorated QLN data.
It seems that we have sussed it now (thanks asbokid), using just the one set of programs for both the HG612 & HG622 on VDSL2 connections, automatically detecting which modem is in use.
I'll continue testing for another couple of days before asking RONSKI to upload the amended programs (also including a few other minor 'improvements/additions').
Has there been any progress on this please? I downloaded from RONSKI's site yesterday (Sun 26) and it doesn't seem to want to play.
A couple of other issues I have:-
1) I can't find where to enable pings on the 622, so my BQM doesn't work.
2) More importantly I can't find any way of disconnecting the PPP session and re-starting it. This matters because I seem to have something odd on my connection to Plusnet, even with the TG582n. On initial connection after a factory reset the TR069 never completes the connection, and the same with the 622. I rang support about it and they couldn't even see attempts to connect. Disconnecting the session and reconnecting twice, through the 582n GUI, fixed it. So I need to try the same with the 622. Any ideas anyone please?
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 54.2/15.2Mbps @ 600m. - BQM
In IP_Router (PPP) mode, maybe try [Basic] -> [WAN] -> [Connection Trigger] (switching it from Always On to Manual, to allow manual dis/connections) Or does that drop the DSL sync as well though?
DMZ - pass! (I assume others have pings/BQM working, maybe that's how, but not something I have ever touched).
Connection trigger - I did wonder about that and the same thought occurred about the sync. Maybe I'll give it a try in a couple of days. Tomorrow is busy, and I wouldn't be suprprised if the DLM doesn't hit me overnight after all the messing I did today between the 582 and 622.
It does seem to connect a little faster than the 582, both down and up smile.
The HG622 compatible programs haven't been uploaded yet as they are still being tweaked here & there.
Let me know if you wish me to directly send you a working 'test' version though.
The programs have only been tested on a HG622 working as a modem only (in bridge mode), but I imagine they will also work when it is used as a combined modem/router.
I commented earlier about my issues using HG622 as both VDSL2 modem and router;
basically my RSCorr rate shoots up from around 10 per second average to 1000's per second.
If left connected, that naturally causes DLM to lower my profile (from around 70Mbps to around 54Mbps over 9 days while I was away)
Apart from that, it works fine.
asbokid has been extremely helpful in trying to sort this out: he has taken my first modem back, tested it against his rig (all clean), tested another HG622 (all clean) and sent it to me. Alas, the result for me was almost exactly the same with the second HG622. I didn't leave it connected for so long this time.
So a couple of questions before I send the second one back and claim the refund which asbokid has been very happy to offer.
1) Has anyone managed to get the HG622 running effectively as a combined VDSL2 modem/router?
2) Can anyone think of any configuration error I may have made that would get it working but cause these low level DSL errors? (asbokid and I can't).
3) Can anyone think of any other explanation for what I have seen?
Neither of us can think of why this might be happening
