No BT cabinets at all ?

I'm currently in a cabled area and get my broadband from Virgin and like a lot of others I'm not entirely happy with them.

Over the last couple of weeks Openreach have been busy laying fibre in the area, this was confirmed by an OR engineer working in a chamber at the top of my road he told me to lookout for the new cabinets being installed as an indicator of when FTTC will be available.

I've done a postcode check and my exchange is labelled as FE and my cabinet number is 46 and this is where I get confused, I cannot find any existing BT cabinets at all in my area, all the cabinets that are visible are for cable.

So in my case does a cabinet = a chamber of which there are plenty ?

You can look up planning applications and find locations of proposed cabinets in many areas, with maps etc.

I have heard of cabinets being in chambers, but for a better answer it would be helpful to post which exchange your connected to.

Have you looked on the roadwork's website, link in my signature. if your area is covered then make sure you tick the option to show future road work's as well.

Nope we dont fit cabs in chambers .

Are Cable and Wireless involved at all as I see from Roadworks.org that they are due to start work next month nearby and "excavate track in f/w (90m) and c/w (10m) to install duct and 2 new f/w chambers".

Thanks, missed that one, that's about 320m from my house, can't imagine they'll put another cabinet there.

Cable and Wireless are nothing to do with Openreach FTTC rollout.

They could put a cab in the entrance to the footpath that is on the corner of the school, or across the road against the wall, It could be anywhere within 50m of the old one.

c&w shouldn't having anything to do with bt laying fiber

Hmm, interesting, can't imagine what they will be doing in the area then.
