Hi all I am wondering if anyone knows how to locate my cab?
i am on wsbla4 i would like to know my cab location
So i can check on it now and then to when
I got this email from Open reach
In your locality the assessment stage for cabinet wsbla4 has only recently been completed as part of a later phase of work in your area. At present not all the works estimates have been scheduled and until they are there is no meaningful estimated cabinet enablement date. Work on this phase is expected through to the latter part of 2013 if there are no issues.

Follow overhead cables, follow manholes, "walk" round with google streetview, look in likely places it may be "hidden".
From the naming I would expect it to have a "4" stencilled on it but some are very faint.
Normally people look for the PCP to find its number. You know its number.
Distance to the PCP (cable run, not as the crow flies) is important as this limits the speed you "may" get.
BT Infinity 2 - IP profile 77 / 20 - super fast!
Previously BE Unlimited - 21,000 Download 1,200 Upload but then moved house - 6,500 Down, 1Mb/s up - gutted!
Ex <n>ildram , been to SKY MAX - 15,225 Download

Does the BT Wholesale checker give FTTC speed estimates yet?
If so it's possible to use that to home in on the location, the higher the speed the nearer to the cabinet.

My pole is in a field and I cant see the way the cables go
I hope my cab isn't skipped as we are in a bad area for adsl but we do have small world media that's like virgin but virgin is banned from this part of town by the council and small world is the only cable provider allowed!
I am getting around 5.5 / 1.2 at the moment with adsl24

You're going to need to post your post code, as WSBLA is not in the leaked 2011 spreadsheet, perhaps then someone will look on Google for it or you may find someone with the relevant access will find it for you.

I have had a walk around and found no green cabs with 4 on it However I have found this manhole!
It got bt written on It and its next to a cable manhole!
http://cochrane.adsl24.co.uk/001.jpg
Could this be My cab?
I have had a look at all the green blue cabs around and cant find cab4
My postcode is ML39RQ and its Blantyre exchange Not Hamilton!
Wish it was Hamilton as its it's got fttc
Can anyone help me find my cab
If this manhole is my cab then its good as its about 1000 feet from house

Hey!
Amazed to see someone else on here who is on the Blantyre exchange. I've been watching this for weeks/months now as a lot of cabinets have been getting installed here. The first one I saw was at Carrigans pub at the cross roads in Blantyre and I've been seeing them pop up in Hillhouse, Westercraigs and actually down in Blantyre itself.
I'll have a look for your cab!

Found your cabinet - http://goo.gl/maps/wnTBW
There is two cabinets there, so one of them is surely yours. Roadworks Scotland shows that Openreach are working there from the 27th May to the 31st May, so keep an eye out for the new cabinet popping up nearby.
This exchange isnt expected to go live until next March anyway, earliest I would think is September this year, so make of that what you will.
Edit:
Lastly, checked your postcode on BT DSL checker. Looks like you'll get a decent speed at 63.5mbit
WBC FTTC Up to 63.5 Up to 20 -- 31-Mar-14
Fibre Multicast -- -- -- 31-Mar-14

Thank you bud glad you found this I am at the top of the hill before you turn into town hill Funny thing is my mums house is the one at the back of the cabs!!
Both cabs are unmarked! had checked before Mum will be happy ...
May even swap Houses would be nice to be that close to the cab!

Those 2 are VM or cable cabinets, their are alot of small cabinets which im asuming must be cable.
http://goo.gl/maps/5BBhk
This is a Openreach cabinet and their is where the work is planned, most likely to be cabinet 4.

You're absolutely right. I've been scoping these streets for a few months now. That original BT cabinet is pretty camouflaged and looks quite old. Mistook it for something else.
Cheers!

Thanks m8 Still close to my mums
Will need to have a lookout for any work
I have noticed newer looking cabs around the top end of hillhouse like townhill road
Blantyre exchange has always been a nightmare adsl sucks real Bad
Had cable at one point but was a victim of tole fraud and vm fecked me over with a £7000 bill that i dint run up and still chasing me for the cash!!! Loved cable its really bad going from 50Mb to 5.2Mb
ps on my OP i said we couldn't get virgin that was old address in Ayrshire sorry for the mix-up!!!!
Jimgb17
|
|
I actually live down in Brankholm and the street we are in doesnt get access to Virgin as it's a new build. I did ask but they said it wasn't going to be cost effective.
Your speed of 5.2mbit is pretty good for the distance between you and the exchange.
Next cabinet I've seen due for installation is at corner of hillhouse road and fleming way - cabinet 35.
|
|
I too am part of the Blantyre exchange. DI believe my cab is number 23. Anyone know if this is the Carrigans one?
|
|

Heh, I wonder who put the 230V warning sticker on the fence? I know it doesn't really matter, and I'm nitpicking, but surely it HAS to be on the cab? Maybe it's just blu-tacked to the wooden fence temporarily, I dunno. Why didn't the OR person just stick it straight on to the cabinet? The cabinet might not be properly in place, but the sticker only goes in one place and will move with the cabinet.
Yes I'm a touch neurotic, but... someone ring Claims Direct or whoever, claiming to have been shocked by that cab, citing the photo as the improper placement of a warning sticker

Yeah, I noticed that and thought it rather odd.
|

The information for your approximate speed was previously on the dsl checker, but it seems BT have removed it now.

Based on that speed, you must be pretty close to the cabinet. Most likely you'll get that figure, but like all things in life, don't pin your hopes on it. Take 10% off it, and make that your expectation, so when its higher you'll be even happier

Better than the 'not economically viable' response that a few of us are getting.
Current on Zen, getting around 5mb.
Exchange is Fibre enabled, street cab not economically viable to upgrade.
Could get V*rgin, but I'd rather not.

had this e-mail earlier this year,
Afternoon Marty,
Council has asked me to have a look at the Issue with Cabinet 35 and the BT upgrade to Fibre.
The last information BT Openreach provided to us was that it was within their commercial contract and a “high cost” upgrade and this had created the delay but it was now scheduled to be Q1 of this year (2015) which leaves a fairly large window of time and i understand from your previous correspondence has already been delayed several times.
So I have some more information and understand the problem better when I am contacting our Scottish Government and BT liaison contacts could you give me both your post code and address and if you have it the location of Cabinet 35.
As you are probably aware as it is a Commercial installation by BT Openreach and the Council has no direct influence on the company however we can ask BT for information, timescales and raise concerns in the interest of the community.

wsbla4 Still dead don’t even think it has power as i cant here any fans running..
What email address did you use for your Council contact?
hope my golive date doesn’t change again.
Adsl is getting worse here 2.1 at its fastest Blantyre exchange it just to far away for the stable connection..

Cabinet 35 used to be my cabinet. Amazed its not yet upgraded. I moved away 2 years ago and it was due to be upgraded then.
It's hardly in a difficult area too. On hillhouse road across from the pub. Virgin media cable also runs right along there too. If I remember right, Virgin media cable is not available in the new flats but is everywhere else.

Lack of a suitable or economic power supply is a frequent cause of delays. If the power company is asking BT for too much money to provide a supply that could well be the cause.

Guys
Date now moved to March 2017, its a joke.
reply from Council say its showing with Openreach as a High Cost site, thats why its not progressing.
I have set up a facebook page to try and get people talking about it, please share with everyone so that we might be able to apply pressure.

No. Chances are that if that PCP has only just been replaced / reshelled then the copper ties have yet to be done. New tarmac suggests additional duct has been provided for the tie cables,
