whats next step?

[link to this post]

Thank you for your interest in our Fibre Broadband project. We are rolling out one of the fastest and largest commercial deployments in the world. Our commercial deployment will have extended to 66% of the UK by the end of December 2014. We aim to extend this to 90% of the UK, in partnership with other sources of funding, e.g. local and National government.

The rollout is based on the commercial criteria for each cabinet. Unfortunately when assessed cabinet mrcol27, which serves a couple of the properties checked in your postcode, did not meet these and is not included in the rollout programme. Where areas are not included in the commercial programme Government funding is available to Borough and County councils to improve fibre coverage and it is worth contacting your Council in relation to this

"and it is worth contacting your Council in relation to this"

Have you tried this?

It seems that Greater Manchester has been allocated some BDUK funding (~£1m), but I don't think I've heard what the status is.

There has also been some Urban Broadband funding allocated to Manchester (~£12m), but again, I'm not sure what is happening to this. There have been complaints about using it to create competitive networks within the cities, so it might just get spent on WiFi and business voucher schemes.

Is VM cable available. That could be the reason why there is no interest in getting Fibre in there.

Without knowing the location beyond a vague Greater Manchester it is hard to say what your options are.

It may be the county council is planning to improve things in your area, what has been their response?

Exchange "mrcol" is Collyhurst" greater Manchester.

There is no County Council - its part of Manchester.

Did anyone think about Manchester City Council and others when BDUK funding was being set up?

BT Infinity 2 - IP profile 77 / 20 - super fast!
Previously BE Unlimited - 21,000 Download 1,200 Upload but then moved house - 6,500 Down, 1Mb/s up - gutted!
Ex <n>ildram , been to SKY MAX - 15,225 Download

They are treated the same as County Councils and other unitary authorities - Peterborough City Council for example has a BDUK project, done together with Cambridgeshire.

Council will only fund a cabinet as part of a much wider project, at the end of the day while you may feel special, for a council with a million homes in it you are just a small statistic.

All you can do is pester and try and find out what the councils plans are.

End of the the political goal is superfast for 90% of homes and 2 Mbps for all the others. If you go faster than 2 Mbps now, they may just ignore your area completely

Thanks, I'm going to look into VISPA who can apparently supply fixed wireless at 100mbps, might be a good alternative

As you may have seen I had this - the [censored] have put cabs 150ydds either side of me but refuse no matter what I do to put me onto one of them.

It's totally stupid but it's the way it is.

DC-HSPA+ or 4G might be better but the limits are bad

Yeah, 4G would be good, but I dont see them having unlimited data anytime soon

Threw the postcode search together at http://www.coolwebhome.co.uk/manchester/ which will list which Council District too.

Postcode M40 has not been found on the Greater Manchester Postcode list

This is probably because the postcode is outside the scope of the project, check the Google Map below for where the postcode is located
