Re: MRBLA - Manchester City Blackfriars

After a long painful wait. As of 8th May my cab - PCP132 (Manchester Blackfriars) has now been connected up to a power feed. Hoping that OpenReach were about to finalise the cab (doing the power certification tests) in order to sign it off Ready for Service (fibre and copper work completed long ago!) OpenReach now advise that they have discovered a high earth reading on the cab and remedial works are required. Basically the fibre cab has a bad earth! Dodgy connection to the earth rod/plate or not grounded properly?

Has anyone heard of earth issues on fibre cabs after being fitted out with a power supply before? Probably going to have to wait another 6 months before this is rectified!

Yep.
May depend on the type of electrical installation but hopefully not that long

cisco unless thet developer has actively engaged openreach around fibre for this development (a new development is going up on Ellesmere St (building starting Autumn 2013) - thern there is quite possible it will be copper only - who is the developer and is it under construciton at present - is their a new cab outise the development (if so thats a bad sign)

Well if it wasn't the Irwell, we could both jump in together and drag it down a bit.

Indeed but there is a lot of the back-log to mop up. Quite a handful of cabs in Manchester Blackfriars area to be upgraded in the remainder of this year. wink

Well Telent have been back today and put in an earth rod, placed earth bonding in a trench back to the fibre cab. Looks like they'll complete the job tomorrow by re-surfacing the foot way.

All being well with the earth bonding (acceptable earth reading on the cab), reckon this cab will get powered up next week? What's the usual timescales after this has been done? (all other work complete) - BTOR say, cabs usually go live in a couple of weeks (taking orders) after power certification signed-off.
