New FTTC Cabinet Street Installed

Hello Everyone, ive just had a new fttc installed 800m up the road, my question is do they come pre installed with all the equipment or is it an empty shell. Im guessing i will be lucky to get more than 25 meg.

whats the capacity of the cabinet in this pic.

It's a Huawei 128-line cabinet. They come with everything installed but the time from plonking it down in its concrete base to the time when it "goes live" can be a considerable one. Power has to be installed, and Openreach have to connect it to your actual PCP (the older green BT cabinet close to it). If it's 800m in a straight line from you, then your actual line length to the cabinet might be much longer, so speed-wise... who knows, exactly.

A more basic question - do you KNOW that the FTTC cabinet there is definitely connected to the PCP which serves you? If you list your postcode here then one of the ISP guys or girls can check for you.

Yes its 3 feet away from the pcp for my village. pcp is number 3 and postcode is tr13 0dy

TR13 0EH (where Google Maps puts it) is 900m from cabinet 3.

I used Google to guess a couple of addresses in Carnkie, and they are indeed served by PCP3 (the addresses I plonked my pin randomly in were in the Roselind Estate - and it's not FTTC enabled, and hasn't got an availability date. BUT what I really should have simply linked you to in the first place is this:

Put your exact address into there and it'll tell you which PCP (cabinet) you're connected to. I know it says in the URL that it's a DSL checker but it does show FTTC too, where available. If it doesn't show it, then unfortunately it's not (officially) planned yet. But if you haven't already, just post a message asking someone who works for an ISP to check whether your cab is on a latest BT "planned" spreadsheet or not, they're allowed to tell you, at least via a PM. There is a slight possibility it'll give you a glimmer of hope.

Round our area, they didn't plonk the cabinet then connect the power, they dug the trenches, installed the trunking, plonked the box, connected up the power and the box is now in there. But it's not humming yet.
